I think they should go 2 class or use convertor seats. Eg. Ozjet could easily get hold of old AN convertor seats which are apparently sitting in containers at MEL. This way they could offer a no frills seat down the back, when aircraft not full in business. Or they could offer full busienss class service but with economy seat so cheaper.
Gives them another option for non busy times of day & holiday periods.
Eg. OZJET SYD/MEL - they could do Y class seat full service (theri service is pretty good apparently, they just need pax to find out) for $50 to $100 less than business class fare (currently AUD$249-$325). This would then put their Y class at around the same as most of QF's Y class & the greater percentage of DJ's tickets, except those bought a long way out. Some pax will pay $50-$100 more, who may not pay $150-$200 more.
It just gives the airline flexibility & options. The airline doesn't want to dump busienss class fares as then will never get them back up again.
