A new joint venture by some Iranian Airlines has go ahead to set-up Izan Air that will start operations later this year. They claim to be low cost carrier offering 10-15% discount. Does anyone know anymore about these guys?

Hmm. Domestic flights? The price of domestic Iranian flights are already stupidly low; indeed, Iran has some of the cheapest flights in the world. A one-way flight from, say, THR to MHD, with a block-time of about 1.75 hours, will cost £10-15 all-in with IR - even on the day of departure. What's more, you can normally get on the flight you want.

no indication that it will be domestic, and I disagree with you on the flight you want, I have flown domesticaly in Iran and always had to book 4 weeks in advance.

Odd. When I was last there I booked most of my flights in the IranAir offices either on the day of departure or the day before - and no problemo, senor.

Is this a thinly veiled attack on Iran Air?

They could go the Southwest route and have Revolutionary Guards hiding in the overhead lockers, perhaps chanting competition (first person to give themselves a concussion gets a free flight), how about a "which stewardess has the blackest chador?"

Oh, the fun they could have. This low cost business can really bring a smile to your face.

Why get American made aircrafts when they cannot buy parts to repair them from the US??

Plenty of 737s already being broken up for parts in other countries... shouldn't be so hard to find replacement parts.

Wow I would not fly on an Iranian B737 even if you paid me $1 million. It must be 30 years old with questionable spare parts.

Will they be the 737-200 from the 70's Iran had? I would think they are more recent second hand models right?

I'll bet it isn't. Sounds more like someone didn't hear 'Izan' properly.

Well, on the website it's both...

In farsi they wrote it ايزان which would be pronounced Izan
