Air Madrid a low fare airline, will begin operating flights between Madrid and Tel Aviv. They are also strong in Latin America and it is expected that a substantial percentage of traffic will connect to Latin America.

Where did you get this information? In any case, NM could be on to something with their flights to TLV. At first I thought why bother, but now I realise there is some potential in those flights because with those connections in MAD to Latin America, they could establish a connection for the Jewish community in Latin America with Israel. Good luck, NM! This route has true potential.

BTW, what equipment will they use for this route? With their apparent aircraft shortage for all the destinations they fly ATM, it could still be very difficult to operate, but I guess the A310 could be suited, so that when demand goes up, they can upgrade the equipment to an A330.

I agree, it has great potential, however, I still think NM need to get their act together. Flights are 90% of the time way off schedule (at least on flights to EZE) and I have heard many complaints by pax, who always tell me that the only good thing is that they offer great fares.

It was in Haaretz newspaper. I don't like the A310. Old and uncomfortable.

Sorry for the shameless bump, but I just found this press release from the Israeli Tourism Ministry.

Click here: http://www.tourism.gov.il/TourismEng...adrid+to+Begin+Charter+Flights.htm

Besides Tel-Aviv, Air Madrid will start operating flights to Lisbon, Milan, Frankfurt, Bucarest and Paris.

Thanks. The article about flights from Russia and Ukraine is also intersting.

Very true. However, last time I was at SJO on a day NM arrived (I believe it was in November or December of last year), they arrived with only a 10 minute delay on their twice weekly. However, I got the impression there were quite some delays on the way out, as according to their timetable turnarounds are about an hour long before continuing to PTY. When DE4184 arrived, EC-JMF was still there and it was around 17:30 local time, and the flight had to depart at 17:00. Nonetheless I agree with you with NM having to get their act together. They also need some more aircraft to serve their routes and avoid such delays (I recall there was once an over 30 hour delay or even worse).

But since it is an former LH A310 and since Lufthansa Technik did some work on her, she's at least well oiled. Big grin

I just don't know how AirMadrid will be able to operate all the routes.... they don't do any route to Latin America right (I speak from personal experience) and now want to add more routes? Maybe by serving other markets people will actually do something about their terrible customer service and ban that airline, because down in S. America, with all the bad press and trip reports and folks trying to do something about it, NOTHING gets done... hopefully the same won't happen with other countries.... Honestly... what are they wanting to become??? Spain's 2nd largest international?? Maybe the 10 A350 rumored orders aren't too far from becoming a reality... I really hope this airline would change their service and become a descent airline to fly with, but until I know of a major change, I will never wish them well, they don't deserve that..

Yep, I have just realized the new route at their own website. But I agree with the fact that this carrier's reputation is not really good and they really had big problems for their shortage in fleet. Just hope they organize better soon. I'm glad tho about this Tel Aviv new destination which will boost competition with IB which will result into a lowering of fares. It's even one of the places I wanna visit soon, so let's see...

David.

Apparently they will get some A320 or A321 for their European flights, and "probably" an additional A330 and A340 for their long haul network in a short term.

On Air Madrid's website, the aircraft for their Madrid-Frankfurt route (for example) is an A321.

Anyone knows where they come from?

Thanks

When did NM even start a flight to FRA?
