It looks really great but I did not had a clue where this airport was situated scratchchin ...

I went to the great Great Circle mapper and got this:

Well, it's very far from AMS (15549 km) and it go me thinking. Are there commercial flights to and from MOZ / NTTM (I more mean to USA for example) but also what about flights between the islands (are there more then one Island?)

More info about Moorea would be great  Smile

I have been to Moorea - MOZ and two airlines fly there One is Air Tahiti (not Air Tahiti Nui) - ATR 72 service and i believe they fly to Papeete (PPT), Huahini (HUH), Raiatea (RFP) and Bora Bora (BOB). I liked Air Tahiti very much, i flew on them while visiting the islands. The closest international service is to PPT.

Also Air Moorea flies, according to their website "40 flights a day" between MOZ and PPT - which is a flight of only 11 miles - and can be taken by ferry as well between the two islands.

Air Tahiti has an impressive ATR operation, and they operate the longest scheduled ATR flight in the world, over 3 hours to Nuku Hiva/Hiva Ora and Mangareva. Some flights are once a week - just to connect the islands, and i believe they do operate both ATR 42s and 72s. Most of the pilots are french or american from what i remember.

Only with a connection in PPT onto either LAX (TN or AF) or JFK (TN) that I'm aware of. The others operate southward from PPT.

sorry if I wasn't clear in my post. The only commercial flights between Tahiti and at least Mainland USA are from PPT.

There are NO commercial flights from either Morea, Bora Bora etc. Maybe a charter but I doubt that the little airstrips on the other islands have the capability of handling anything large enough to operate the nonstop flights.

Great airport, Moorea - I stopped over there en route from Bora Bora back to Papeete (why ? Because I can !), and took the Air Moorea Islander shuttle across the lagoon to PPT - took 5 minutes, and I got to sit next to the driver, wooohooo ! Excellent flight, practically skimming the waves.

You can fly from PPT directly to CDG, JFK, LAX, SYD, AKL, RAR, NRT and KIX. with AF, NZ and TN.

Frequent cruises travel from the US and Latin america to PPT also.

Two major domestic airlines in the islands. Air Tahiti, who owns air Moorea, and Wan air, who operates Dornier 328Jets on executive charters. I have more photos somewhere...

Lan also operates to SCL via Easter Island.

When I was in BOB there was a US private Jet on the apron. However, I understand that the flights have to transit via PPT for customs clearance.

You can just see it in the back of the picture here - VT ATR72-500 in front.

I went to Moorea last christmas. I flew from LAX on AF to PPT then took a ferry to moorea. On the way back I flew Air Tahiti Nui. You cant fly direct from cdg it stops in lax and continues on.

Here is my trip report about it.

Papeete is the only main airport in Tahiti. All flights go through there except from some small island flights. Air Tahiti as described serves destinations all over Tahiti from Papeete on the main island.

As for other islands in the South Pacific, Air New Zealand is pretty much the leader in service between those islands and North America and Australia/Asia. You can fly to many islands in different countries with beautiful beaches:
Papeete
Rarotonga
Niue
Tonga
Apia
Nadi (serving Fiji and the most popular)
Noumea
Norfolk Island

There are also other airlines. Air New Zealand serves all of these from AKL (some with stopovers) and has nonstop service to LAX from Nadi, Tonga, Rarotonga, Papeete and Apia. From LAX you can connect to anywhere in North America or Europe.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
