Interestig article. However, I believe that the first sabotage of an airline took place on United in the 50s. A passenger placed a bomb in his mothers luggage in order to collect life insurance. It happened in 1955 on a flight out of Denver. It blew up over Longmont , Colorado.

The last line of the linked article mentions that Arthur Hailey, the author of "Airport" passed away last year in the Bahamas. I hadn't heard that before.
In addition to "Airport", he also penned such superb books as:
"Hotel" (upon which the 1980's ABC show was based)
"The Final Diagnosis"
"Runway 08" (the TV movie "Terror In the Sky" was based on this book)
"The Evening News"
"The Moneychangers" (a movie starring Kirk Douglas and Christopher Plummer was based on this book)
"In High Places"
One of my favorite authors.
