I heard that from mid July, Aerolineas Argentinas will fly daily with the new A340-200 the route Santiago-Buenos Aires-New York and viceversa. Could anybody confirm this?

ENGLISH Since my dad works for the Iberia Group, he also knows what is going on with Aerolíneas Argentinas. And till his knowledge Aerolíneas Argentinas will receive its first A-340 till mid August or the first days of September. Those A.340 Aerolíneas will receive will be for long international routes and will add more frequencies to the schedules. Now Aerolíneas Argentinas flies to Mexico City four times per week with A-310 and in vacation periods with the old 747-200. With the new A-340 Aerolineas will fly daily non stop from Buenos Aires to Mexico City or Buenos Aires to Madrid or Cancún. Saving hours, money and fuel. Aerolíneas took the decision of using A-340 because of Iberia. A-340 with Iberia have a great success. Referring to the Santiago de Chile route, it is very sure that Aerolíneas will put the new A-340 from SCL to Buenos Aires and then to JFK because the route SCL- EZE it´s very very crowded and gives a lot of money.

The first new A340 is scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires (EZE) tomorrow. There will be a reception party on Sunday at the airport. First scheduled commercial flight will be on June 20th.
According to Mexico services, it will not be a daily flight. Just 5 weekly EZE-MEX-EZE flights with A340, and Cancun will not be served anymore.
About Madrid, it will be still served with the B747-200, while the A340 will fly to Rome and Paris nonstop from Buenos Aires.

Hello Robert!
These are great news from Argentina. I hope that the reception party for this new plane could mark also a celebration of new times in Aerolíneas' life. At least in Arg. you know when a plane will arrive, because here in Brazil, due to the crisis, the delivery of the A319s and A320s for TAM hasn't the date decided yet, and the future of the new B777s and B737NGs to VARIG seems each day more doubtful. Congratulations to Aerolíneas and to all the people linked to it!

Thanks Humberto for the congratulations!
I think Aerolineas, will make some flights to Brazil, especially to GRU, with the A340, in order to promote the new aircraft, and the new First Class service AR is inaugurating with the arrival.
When I have more news on this issue, I will tell you.

Aerolineas will start nonstop A340 service from EZE to Paris CDG on July 20 or 21; flight will operate four times a week (details of schedule arrivals on 1st spotters page).
There is also a picture of the first A340 landing (training?) at justplanes.com

The A340's will be used to relaunch services to Paris, Rome, Zurich, Frankfurt and London. They will also replace ageing 747-200's to New York, Auckland, Sydney and Mexico City.
A new corporate image is expected to welcome the first A340.

I am afraid that the new image will not come with the first A340, as the company said they will show it later this year, while the first A340 is expected to arrive today to Buenos Aires.
Another thing is that Paris and Rome are the only european destinations for scheduled flights for the A340. Also AKL, SYD, MEX, JFK and probably CCS and BOG.

I am pretty sure Aerolíneas will fly daily non stop from Buenos Aires to Mexico City. Service to Cancún will be the same from Bogotá or Buenos Aires.

I'm just wondering what AR's new First Class will be like, as their "Club Gold" is not very exciting. Will they fly their 340 to LHR/LGW? If so, they face strong competition from Speedbird 2266 6x a week. I hope that AR does fly to London as I am bored of flying with BA to Argentina!! Also, how long will LHR/LGW-EZE take on an A340. With BA's 747-400, the journey is normally 13 hrs.
Good Afternoon Buenos Aires Tower, Speedbird 2266 ready for start push-back...!

The first A340-200 for Aerolineas Argentinas landed in EZE on saturday morning. It`s registration is LV-ZPJ.
To Speedbird 2266: Unfortunately, AR is not going to fly to London, at least this year, according to plans. You will have to go on flying BA, but I am sure BA is offering the best quality in the air!
I think that using an A340, the flight EZE-LON would take about half an hour more than with the B747-400.
