Below is a list of 17 North American carriers past and present.

Can anyone tell me what do the airlines in List # 1 have in common with each other. And what do the airlines in List # 2 have in common with each other.

Agreed. On a side note, why exactly did so many airlines jump on the 747 bandwagon? Of course it was the new thing, and revolutionary in air travel, but did these airlines really not realize they weren't going to be able to sell ~400 seats on routes that weren't necessarily filling up much smaller aircraft?
