I'm taking the piss here guys!

I know the aircraft won't visit Dublin but everybody seems to be asking this question followed by the airport close to where they live!

Thought I might join in for the laugh  rotfl

Think again.

The A380 will be doing transatlantics, so checking it out at DUB and SNN may well be on the cards. After all, both are important westerly diversion fields for flights which have problems heading east.

Yah, everytime someone asks me if I think the 380 will ever visit YYZ, I just start laughing my brains out! I just keep telling them that a space shuttle will land in YYZ before the 380 will!

I don't mind this fact anyways seeing as I think the 380 is like looking a brick wall!

Cheers,

YYZ might get it too, as it's probably a diversion field that could handle the A380 should YUL be shut (for the AF flights)?

HAM is also the diversion field for the A380 should XFW be closed (for A380 production flights).

Is the runway not too small though? A fully loaded A340 can't take off from DUB.

any airport that can handle the 747 can take the A380. EI used to fly the lower powered 741 out of DUB so I can't see there being any issue.

The only problems are tight corners and the position of the outboard engines being further out than a 747.

I'm also not convinced of the A340 story's validity.

And on a smaller runway then 28/10. As much as I'd love to see it, I'm not sure a 380 will ever grace us with it's presence in DUB. SNN would be a possibility. i think I read somewhere, or maybe someone told me that it's not the length of the runway that's the issue persay but it's how far the wings extend beyond the runway if that makes sense, having said that there is of course the proposed for the new runway in DUB which I believe should be able to take anything.

EDIT: Maybe it won't be able to take anything

Quote:
Planning characteristics of the Proposed Runway 10L/28R
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The length of the proposed runway is 3110m. This length is based on consultation with the users and with minimising the impact of the construction on the surrounding road network. The length is derived from Runway Take-off Distance Required for an A330-200/300. The length of the existing main runway is 2637m. The horizontal separation between the two runways will be 1690.6m.

The width of the runway will be 60m with 7.5m shoulders either side. The shoulders may be constructed at the same time as the runway, or deferred to a later stage, subject to a review of the exact timing of the need.

It would be humorous to see hundreds of people scurrying around the airport madly assembling extensions to the runways while a A380 herself flies circuit patterns waiting to land.

Well the space shuttle did overfly YYZ once at about 2000 ft. (on the back of the 747). Okay it did not land but it's close enough!!!

BTW the 380 will someday visit YYZ and myself and a few hundred aviation enthusiasts will be there to welcome it.

Virgin currently fly 340s and 747s into DUB regularly for maintenance but I presume the 380s will be going elsewhere? While the runway may be able to handle the 380 for a short hop to LHR what about the taxiways?

Both operate into the airport empty... I could of sworn I read somewhere on this site (possibly from Kaitak) that a full A340 can't operate from DUB.

I dont think it can. It would be very limited if the A340 could fly there.

I could be wrong, but I don't think even a fully loaded 747 can operate out of DUB? I think the frequent SQ freighters depart DUB for AMS or STN typically, never too far afield? Just a hunch, could be wrong.

This is true, I've always wondered about the Mega ARK where exactly it went, i suppose I could check it out next time it's in.

Yes, the SQ freighters go on to CPH from DUB.

Different question, but will it come to KEF? Didn't Boeing test the 777 there due to the windy conditions?
