I just spoke to a supervisor with US and he told me that the airline will be adding six more flights in March from MSY. More flights to CLT, PHL, and DCA. PIT (not surprisingly) and LGA seem like they are gone. Some or all of the new flights will be flown with 70 seaters. He did not specify if they'll be E70's or CR7's...possibly both.
I asked him about HP service to PHX and he said that MSY-PHX was supposed to start "anytime now". He said it will definetely be coming back. I didn't ask him about LAS.
Also, the US ticket counter, offices, and gates are getting a major spruce up here in anticipation of the merger of the two airlines.

I would guess either an A320 or A319

I was hoping that US would make MSY a focus city at some point. A few good routes to places like RDU, FLL, MCI....would be cool.

Well if the additional service is on 70 seaters, it will probably be E70's from DCA and PHL and CR7's from CLT.

Based on the published and available schedule as of 31Mar06, USAirways will have the following from MSY:
CLT - 2-CRJ, 1-A319 and 1-B734 - total 4 per weekday, reduced weekend schedule; in early April this goes to 2 daily A-319's only.
DCA - 3-E70 per weekday, reduced weekend schedule
PHL - 1-A319 per day
PIT - zilch
LGA - zilch
and of course nothing to FLL, BOS or anywhere else...
NOTE: I just checked the schedule from 31Mar on .. not prior to that date but I think they are doing a build up in Feb.

Well PHL-MSY is currently at a daily 319 so if there is any increase in that market it has not been loaded
wonder why they reinstated it, only to have it scheduled for suspension before it even started

yes, but they remain constant vis-a-vis their destinations. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how US could justify re-introducing PIT only to schedule it for cancelization before they even relaunch the route.

Other airlines have done this - usually because advance bookings are poor.

From what I have heard PIT will return in March along with some other cities. They are waiting on Brickyard to build up their fleet a bit first.

I don't recall US EVER stating they were adding the flight back to the MSY schedule; and as it stands now it is not published at all for March, nor all the way through to August. It could be in the plan... but I personally feel they should concentrate on their PHL/CLT/PHX/LAS hubs and of course continue DCA service; perhaps add LGA.
Brickyard = Callsign/nickname for Republic, spawn of Chautauqua, "based" in Indianapolis, hence the name. They're in the process of acquiring E-170s switched over from Mid-Atlantic within the US-X fleet.

Yeah, isn't that the truth. I figured US wouldn't reintroduce the route. It stinks that we are down to 174 daily flights.

Well, the MSY-LGA route won't miss US service too much since DL is adding a daily CR7 flight and AA is bringing back their daily S80 nonstop.
As for MSY-PIT...I just don't see it coming back. PIT is really a secondary market for MSY, and likewise.

I can see it coming back as an RJ or a Mid-Jet (my new name for the E70/CR7), but definitely not an A319 as it was. The A319 was overkill to begin with looking at O&D when the O&D is less on that route than it is on some cities from PIT that have NO US service.

The March schedule was just loaded Sunday. The April schedule is a "default" schedule, so don't put any weight on what you see there...

Nope - not that I've seen anyway. This was one of the more subtle updates I've seen from US in the last year or so. As I concentrate on PVD, I've only noticed that 1 PHL flight was upgauged from a 319 to a 734 and a Saturday overnighter E70 was upgauged to a 319 and it now goes to CLT on Sunday mornings instead of PHL. They barely adjusted the times and/or flight numbers on most of the other flights.
The April and beyond schedule is still the "dummy" schedule from last December...
