Hi folks
When I was in Costa Rica I came up with this advertisement sating the starting of a direct CDG-SJO flight... however I haven't seen anything enw on AF website...
Is this real info or is it another misleading info where you end up codesharing to miami and catching a direct flight to CDG ?
Regards
BM

I don't think so, as AF already codeshares with TA on the MIA-Central America flights. So maybe it is a new flight...
Saludos
Edit: After a long search in taca.com (who the heck removed the "About us" link from the top menu?! ), I found out that the SJO-MIA route is not included in the codeshare. However, this codeshare doesn't get any publicity over here, so I still stand by my original idea that this must be a new flight.

The one by the airport? That has been there for years and no announcements at all.

IB is the one that Codeshares with TA routes from MIA-Central America, from the cities IB doesn't fly to (SAL, SAP, TGU, MGA). Don't think AF codeshares to Central America.
Then again, most people wouldn't know about it unless they
a) called AF for a reservation
b) were TA employees in training, who had to memorize all codeshare agreements to pass their next test (sigh... I miss those times)

Where exactly did you see that advert? I saw the exact same one somewhere near Paso Ancho on the Circunvalación. Maybe AF does have something under study, yet they aren't very public about that. I personally would love to have a direct CDG-SJO flight.

That's exactly the one I saw now in decembre...that would give IB good competition for once (not like NM or Martinair) and i'm sure service will get better to Costa Rica

Fully agree with you about Air Madrid and Martinair subject, but ...anyhow your are a bit naive if you think IB will give a better service just because AF launch a new destination which competes with IB.
JFK, MIA, ORD, MEX, BOG, CCS, SDQ, HAV, GRU, GIG, SCL, EZE and JNB are airports served by both, IB and AF, and the French Carrier is, by far a better airline than IB

AF is an Sky Team member.
If by any chance CM becomes a Sky Team member this year, it would make more sense for AF to fly to PTY instead of SJO; even if SJO would get a large number of passangers from that AF flight.
If AF had an interest in flying to SJO or to offer an alternative not via U.S.A. they would have started something like a PTP-SJO-PTP to connect with their PTP-France-PTP flights long ago.
Rightnow, because of the existant leisure traffic - SJO is more attractive for European airlines to fly into than any other centralamerican destination,
I wouldn't be surprised if KL, BA or VS are thinking about SJO.

Aww, I wanted to go to CDG if AF was to start service, but if it would go through PTP, it would be from ORY.

VS is very unlikely, I believe SRB is not at all interested in the Central American market. However, KL and BA are a possibility. I heard around that BA is interested in returning to SJO, however it would be with a 767 and not like before with a 777. If it was to be a 767, it might not really make sense because SJO is a leisure destination and would be best served out of LGW (which doesn't have any 767s based there), unless BA is seeing opportunities for Biz PAX with a 767 out of LHR.

I don't think i'd be the only person who would be ready to put a little more money to fly AF than IB....trhey would lose clients to the destinations they focus most on (ie Latin America)...they would have to make something not to lose passengers they practically have the monopoly on

KLM...already dropped us and put that shitty Martinair instead that above all its bad service forces us to go via miami...arggH
BA...is a oneworld member...thuis it codeshares all its flights through Madrid and I would hardly see IB like it is BA competed with them (tho it would be great for us passengers)

This may be just wishful thinking, but how about LH replacing DE at SJO? There are plenty of opportunities for filling Business PAX seats on their aircraft. Either a 747 Combi or an A343/A346 would be best suited for the route. Germans have a presence here in Central America, so by having LH come here, you'd offer them more than just flying with a very established airline. And LH Cargo could also get a piece of the pie that is the Central American cargo market.
