This is a good question. I have been wondering this. As far as I know, so far they only have them installed on the 737-700s. I can't think of a reason for not installing them on the others (but obviously the -200s will not get them)...

Shouldn't the -600s be coming out of the box with them, given that they are the newest in the fleet?

Nah, I believe it is 3rd party installations, done in YXX or MCO or both I can not remember. I think they just need approval from someone, either Transport Canada or someone else and they are good to go on the -600 and -800. What they usually do for the -700 when putting in TV is let it fly around for a while after devl. Then send it for TV's after a few weeks or months of flying.

You've got the gist of it...
The TVs don't come preinstalled from BFI.... they go to MCO and YXX for install. All the 700's have them, 2 or 3 of the 800's have them and the 600's won't see them til the fall probably, but they'll be doing a lot short hops not worth coughing up 3 bucks a headset.

Not quite yet.. I believe they are still operating the 200 on a couple routes in western canada (3 to be exact).. I know they still operate them on some YEG-YMM runs as well as YEG-YYC.. I believe Abbotsford and Kelowna still see them too .

WestJet Operates Newest Fleet in North America

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 9, 2006) -
Airline Bids Farewell to its Last Boeing 737-200
WestJet (TSX:WJA) today announced that it now operates North America's newest fleet of any large commercial airline comprised of 51 state-of-the-art Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft equipped with more legroom, leather seats and live seatback television on more than 85% of its fleet. As at December 31, 2005, the average age of WestJet's Next-Generation aircraft was 2.0 years.
WestJet today said goodbye to its last Boeing 737-200 in a final flight past its Calgary Hangar captained by Don Bell, WestJet's Executive Vice-President and Co-Founder. The 737-200 marked its last return revenue flight as a charter between Calgary and Las Vegas on Sunday, January 8, 2006.
"Today is a historic day for WestJet as we have now officially retired our 737-200 fleet. These aircraft were a determining factor in the success of our airline for many years, and helped to establish WestJet as Canada's premier airline for low-fare, high-value service," said Bell.
"We are proud to operate the newest fleet in North America, and will be able to better serve our guests by providing them with greater comfort aboard our new jets. This will help WestJet continue to be travellers' first choice for affordable and friendly travel."
WestJet's fleet now includes the Boeing Next-Generation 737-600, 737-700 and 737-800. The most recent addition to WestJet's fleet is the Boeing Next-Generation 737-600. The 737-600, which has a seating capacity of 119, allows the airline to add limited capacity on newer routes and between smaller centres. The 737-800, which has a seating capacity of 166, is the largest aircraft in WestJet's fleet and provides greater opportunities for adding low-cost capacity to high-demand routes. The 800 focuses service on long-haul routes. The 737-700 has 136 seats.
Both the 737-700 and 737-800 series aircraft are all equipped with blended winglets, which increase lift, improve fuel efficiency, lower emissions and reduce engine-maintenance costs.
In 2006, the airline will accept delivery of a total of two 737-700s and 10 737-600s.
WestJet's Next-Generation aircraft are 30% more fuel efficient than the 737-200 on an available seat mile basis, while offering guests greater legroom, a quieter ride and leather seats.

I read somewhere that the 736 needs a separate certification for LiveTV from the 73G/738 and WJ is the 1st 736 LiveTV customer.....and they were more interested in pressing the 736 into service quickly that waiting for the LiveTV cert beforehand.
Same with the 736 winglets; WJ is the 1st customer and hence certification is required.

Nope. It's due to certification. Anyway, of the 3 736's in operation, 2 are operated on Western Cda shorthauls connecting YYC/YEG/YLW/YQR/YMM/YXE. The 3rd is used on transcons YYZ-LAS/YLW.
2 addl 736's will enter service this month.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

The 73G and the 738 (as will the 736's) both needed separate certification by both the FAA and TC... We had tail 010 sitting with the TV's installed sitting in YYC for about 2 months waiting for Transport Canada to make it legit. The same will happen for the 600's when it's time to get them equipped with TV's and winglets, they'll quickly go down to MCO to get the first install done and it will come back to YYC and take up space in front of the WS Hangar until TC get's their ducks in a row, then the rest will be done faster. I'd rather see them flying with no TV's making us money, than parked wasting space.
There have been no revenue flights on 732's since the day of the news release. They have been sitting there (the old girls... ) since the 9th, soon to be returned to their lenders or subsequently turned into beer cans or coral reefs or if some crazy airline employee can afford it, one hell of a treehouse.
