Avior From CCS To EZE, FLL, SDQ, GRU, PTY

Hey guys, I was browsing Avior Airlines' website www.avior.com.ve and found this interesting ad that shows Avior's Upcoming destinations. It looks like a huge expansion plan and if it takes place, they would challange both VH and Santa Barbara as the country's most important carrier with intl. flights.

Avior fleet consists of 11 B1900D and 3 B732s. If they wanna fly to FLL, they'll need to wetlease a plane. They can go to PTY and GRU with their 732s but to GRU and EZE, they'll need a widebody or a 73G.

It surprises me as I was expecting Milan as anounced by tho owner about a year ago. But those destinations are indeed very surprising.
Especially as the traffic rights to EZE and GRU from CCS are hold by Aserca and Conviasa wants to fly those destinations as well. So I doubt IF they revoke Asercas traffic rights that they will go to Avior - but - you never know. It would be more than great to see Avior fly those routes.

FLL is very srprising as well. Spirit wanted to fly, Laser wanted to fly.... Avior needs an US operator as we all know - difficult.

Panama is a great idea and I think no problem. Santo Domingo means competing against VH and R7.

And the domestics.....MUN against VH and R7 - Guanare and Guiria are good ideas and PYH and SFD are RAVSA destinations and need a more reliable connection.

But all this will definetly be postponed until the connection between the city and the airport works again.

In general I would say that Avior had kinda epiletic Ramiz-attack.

Maybe you are right but, if you analyse carefully Avior's path over the past 10 years you will see that it is one of steady expansion and growth and very little "epilepsy". Things have been done cautiously, judiciously and with the necessary adjustments to the extraordinary conditions that make running an airline in Venezuela so fiendishly difficult.

Flying to FLL in particular has been on the cards for quite a while and, so far, the only Venezuelan airline that has applied to the DOT for permission is Santa Barbara. Venezuela's FAA Cat II makes it harder to materialise with Venezuelan-registered aircraft and crew.
Perhaps all of these foreign destinations will be codeshares with other airlines. Geriatric B- 737-200s are hardly the kind of planes one would seriously ever expect to use on routes to Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires !

Nice to hear this, it seems that Avior is growing... Now, going serious, other than the big new, I believe it will take long before they start these new services. Avior doesn't have any jet experience (let's face that using a couple 732s is not something experiencefull). They will probably start with FLL, since they'll anyways have to wetlease an american registered aircraft, and with that, get to know the business better and eventually start doing the other routes.

As Chiguire said, PTY and SDQ can be done with their 732s, but EZE and GRU will have to be done with wide bodies or perhaps newer 73Gs, which I highly doubt Avior will do this routes with small load jets.

I think this is something great for Venezuelan aviation, since Avior is one of the stable airlines in the country. I totally agree with Civilav with his coment.

Now that we can start especulating, I'd love to see some 757s in Avior colours!

No, they cancelled about a year ago for "small loads" which I think it wasn't true since I took that flight 4 times and it was full all of them.

How does traffic rights work? I mean, R7 has those to GRU and EZE, but do you really think they're gonna be flying there anytime soon? Let's suppose Avior is ready to fly those routes and Aserca still has the rights but never uses them...ni lavan ni prestan la batea.

I believe they didn't drop it because of loads, which were fine. I understand it was basically because of yields, which were never on-pair with those of MIA-CCS.

Same happens with AV's BOG-FLL route; yields are much lower than in BOG-MIA, but year-round loads are terrific and the bulk pretty much neutralizes the lack of yields. Also, lower-yielding traffic that connect in BOG when heading to South Florida are usually sent on the BOG-FLL service, leaving BOG-MIA for the higher-yielding types.

R7 used to have a codeshare on RGs flight from GRU/GIG. But you are right, in case Avior wants to use them there should no problem. BUT: As we have our state-run Conviasa that wants to fly EZE and GRU as well I doubt that Avior gets those rights.
But maybe meanwhile there is more than one airline from each country that is allowed to fly....."Civilav" I guess knows more.

I agree with you Civilav. I know that "Ramiz announcements" are not typical for Avior. I just meant it could be an exception.
But, I still beleive there are so many destinations that are either underserved or in the hand of only one airline, so that a competition on such a route ex CCS would be welcome.
Event those routes where it looks like one airline, one flight is enough because loads are OK could attract more traffic just because of a new competition and the drop of fares.
In my opinion these are for example: MEX, GRU, EZE, SCL, SJU. I am not sure about SJO and PTY.

Sure, it's a competition against TACA. But they have a double daily and a good hub in SJO. But I don't know the traffic and the circumstances of this route in detail - so it could be an option.

I will only talk about EZE, which is the destination I know the most, letting the rest to locals or people who have some knowledge about them.

Right now we only have one airline flying EZE-CCS: Aerolíneas Argentinas. Since Viasa's desmise, AR has been doing whatever it feels like with Caracas and loads and yields are still good. From an MD-88 via VVI until early 2005, to a triangular flight shared with BOG with A310, and now -starting next month- to a daily, dedicated service with A310, Caracas has always been a good destination for Aerolíneas.

The market is there. Argentine beaches were not designed for holidaymakers, so the people I share my country with always elope during the high season to warmer climates, mainly Brazil because of the distance, but also to the Caribbean. Venezuela, especially Margarita Island, has always been a popular, not-so-expensive getaway for us.

And then there is petrol. And these days, in Latin America, petrol means Chávez. Because of well-known reasons, we are in great relationships with Venezuela. Chávez likes us. We like his money. Everybody is happy. It is unusual to read the newspaper here and not to see, at least once weekly, that an Argentine delegation is going to Caracas or vice-versa. And our handsome, well-prepared, sympathetic officials do not fly on an official plane, but they fly on an airliner. There's no policy in Argentina about flying the national carrier - what the heck, De la Rúa even flew to Europe in Lufthansa. And given our current financial state, I guess (at least I hope) the Government pays the cheapest option when officials travel abroad. Right now there's no other option than Aerolíneas. Yes, there is Avianca via Bogotá, Varig via São Paulo and TACA via Lima, but it is inconceivable for any Deputy Junior Under Secretary of Idiotic Affairs to make a stop-over.

So yes, there is a market. It may not be as interesting as FLL, but still I would give it a try. Argentines like Venezuela and Venezuelans like Argentina. And there's our marvellous relationship. After all, we are both united under the same (bad) destiny.
