I was just wondering, does anyone know if there are any 777's available to lease?
I know they are hard to find, many airlines want them. I know that here in Israel alone both Israir and LY are looking for them.

At this time there is no one 777 available in the market.

The only way to get a 777 is trying to know who will receive new planes to upgrade the fleet (a 773 or 772LR for example) that could drop one 772 non-ER or even a 772ER.

Doesn't UA have some parked in the desert? They could certainly use the cash.

I think they have mostly gone to Air India.

At this point in time, I do not think that there are any excess 777s around...the 777s that UA disposed of during their bankrupcty are now with Air India and Varig, the two BA 777-200As are with Varig, the Aeroflot 772ERs are with Air Viet Nam, and thats about it as far as what has been on the second hand market.

Some thoughts>>>one would guess that EL AL would be only interested in ER versions as in their current fleet.

1. There has been continued concern about Varigs finances and their ability to make lease payments on their fleet.

2. SQ may start retiring their early 772ER deliveries in the near term future as more new aircraft (more 777s) are delivered.....SQ is known to rotate its fleet rather quickly.

3. There is a possibility that CX will sell of its 772s in favor of more 773/773ERs ( a rumor that has circulated).....but the CX 772s are A market versions which would be very limiting for EL AL, especially since the 777s are needed for longhaul expansion to open new nonstop services to US cities.

EL AL probably would be better off looking for additional 744s......many on the second hand market and much cheaper and EL AL is already a 744 operator, didnt EL AL recently pick up a used 744 from SQ?

Is it true that the 763 is also in high demand in the second hand market?

I can say that at this moment Varig is a good customer of lessors, they probably will obtain more planes soonest.

El Al i actually looking for both 777 and/or 744.
In all they are looking for 3 a/c. ( I think also 737's)
You are right, they did pick up an ex-SQ 744 (4X-ELS)

I have a couple under my bed. How much are you offering to take them?

The way things are going for Alitalia, we might see more 777's on the market really soon).

Do you really think the Italian government will allow Alitalia to go under? First off, European states are reluctant to let their flag carrier to go under (SAS opperates with a constant cash infusion from the scandanavian governments, I'd assume that Lufthansa, KLM, and Air France get atleast as much financial help - if not more than US carriers like United, American, Delta, and Northwest. Secondly, the Italian automotive industry survived for decades, basically on the generousity of the Italian government. At no point in their independent history was the automaker Alfa Romeo financially viable, Fiat likewise has had the Italian government pull them out before (not recently however, thanks to the strong performance of their japanese Nissan division). But yeah, I don't see Alitalia going anywhere. I'm sure their 777's are safe. My guess is since Boeing is 3 years backed up in the factory, a 777 of any flavor is hard to come by right now.
