One hears many reports of diversions due to unacceptable passenger behaviour. Do airlines actually try to recover their costs from these passengers? Or do airlines take the more fatalistic attitude that occasional diversions of this nature are inevitable, resigning themselves to paying the costs?

In the Netherlands there recently was the first court case on this (Transavia case), and the court agreed that Transavia could claim the diversion cost (extra fuel, landing fees, extra crew costs) on the person that has caused it. Now this has been said by a judge for the first time, at least in the Netherlands you can assume that every carrier from now will do the same thing.
