Song Terminal In JFK Temporarily Closed

I was flying out of JFK in the morning today on a Song flight to SFO. As my cab pulled into the drop-off zone, I noticed that it was unusually vacant. A man approached me, and told me that the Song terminal was temporarily closed. He then directed me to the main Delta terminal 3. All check-ins were being done there. After a chaotic check-in, Song passengers were told to go back to the Song gates. When I entered Song's part of the terminal, I could see that only the gate areas were working. But the Check-in and the security were all closed. Only pilots were allowed to go through.
Does anyone know what was going on today?

Not sure about today, but I heard a similiar weird story yesterday...A friend says he was flying DL JFK-SDQ and was directed to the Air Jamaica checkin in Terminal 4...I'm guessing he was wildly mistaken...But who knows.

Didn't look like there was any construction going on, it was just plain vacant.... If there was some construction planned, I highly doubt they would say "temporarily".

Yes...probably eliminating all signs that song ever existed....goin back to old blue and red DL colors. And to think...God only knows how much money they spent renovating the terminal turning everything into the light green song motif....

They really didnt do that much. It is a shared SONG/DELTA termial.

BTW... what construction is going to take place this Spring?? T2 needs any help it can get.

T3 is ok . . . but the Worldport Exterior needs a paint job NOW!

HVAC work and new baggage system, nothing drastic.

T2 hours have changed to 1200-2100. Maybe he was by in the AM. Despite the hours the terminal still has activity in the morning just not curbside.

also roof work and restroom renovations. the port authority required that DL spend the money to do them. And yes, paint.

Is Song being eliminated from the DL family?

As of May 1, song will be gone. All of its routes will be merged into DL's mainline. DL has been EXTREMELY sktechy as to where exactly they're sending song's planes and when they will begin to add their F cabin. Knowing DL, it could take as long as it did to convert all the DL planes to song back in 2003...

I was there at 6 am. But why would it be limited to certain hours? There was a decent amount of Song flights going out in the morning. It was certainly very inconvenient for all of us to take a round-about way to get to the gate. Why would they do this?

oops... did not recall since it was not that interesting as airlines within airlines have come and gone since over a decade a go - COLite, Metrojet etc. and airlines still attempt to go at it...

How long before TED goes kaput? Any other airline tumor left?

Funny you should say that, as song IIRC, did ok and was popular with travelers, except for the fact that there was no first class. COlite was around for a few years as well, never flew em, but it seems they did ok too. So it seems airline "tumors" as you like to call them do ok.

But on another note, Song was intended to be used to "test the waters" so to speak, of new products and cabin features. Such as the leather seats, ife and BOB meals, that are very tasty, btw. So it really shouldent come as a suprise.

According to my UA sales rep TED is holding it's own and if anything they are going to expand it out of MDW and ORD.

The Port Authority better not even think about painting it on the outside. Just a cleaning will do. On the interior, please no painting, just restoration.

Nah, look at the 'Umbrella Canopy.' Chunks of cement are missing and paint is peeling. It is a mess and needs a major restoration soon.

You're probably right.. Although I hope it is more of a restoration and not a retro-fitted terminal change.

Just trying to preserve JFK history. By the way, what do you think about Terminal 9. Seems to need some help too!

Terminal 9 is brand new! It's the old terminal 8 that was falling apart. I checked recently when I was in JFK earlier this month, and AA seemed a fix up the check-in areas since I was there last in 2003.

I can't say the same about the Worldport. PLEASE! will DL fix that up already!?!

just used terminal 3 a few weeks ago and it was chaos for check-in. long lines out of the terminal and for security (not enough space). they dont have a designate business class check in area or for those not check in bags.
The business elite check in area in front of the terminal was closed in the morning.
A lot of refurbishment is needed in Terminal 2 as well. Great flight on Song and then that terminal!.. doesn't match

The new T9 is super nice. Now we only have another 2 years before T8 goes bye-bye as well. Good riddance!

As for T3, I think it is super-awesome. I love the weird design. What other term
