YYZ Lockheed Constellation On The Move

The Lockheed L1049G Super Constellation that has sadly sat at the north end of YYZ seems to be on the move. A crew has been dismantling the aircraft for about a week now.

Does anybody know were this old lady is heading? I hope see is going to have a bright future somewhere else and not just be scrapped.

Apparently it is to move to an AC hangar at YYZ for short-term storage.

I also believe that there are two museums interested in it, one of them being the Aviation Museum at Downsview.

This is the Info that is with the picture.

Former TCA Connie CF-TGE. No registration currently carried. Its days as a restaurant are long over and the Connie sits deserted on a traffic island at the north end of the airport. Last flew with World Wide Airways as CF-RNR during the mid 1960's.

It must have been approximately 8 years ago that this Connie made an appearance on Derry Rd at the north end of YYZ as a pub/bar type establishment. It changed ownership a few times, and changed into a restaurant or two. Needless to say it was somewhat of a novelty but the businesses never lasted.

I went there 3 or 4 times to have a beer or two, but it was never busy. It's too bad they couldn't have made it work.

It is headed to the 747 hangar where it will be painted in AC's new colours and put on the YYZ-BOS route. 100k is a bargain for an aircraft nowadays. Rice Tuners Inc got a contract for Stage III hushkits for the engines. Also shopping for the Connie's Wright R-3350 engines that need new spark plugs as the heads are quite oxydated....

...so anyone out there with 96 spare R-3350 spark plugs, drop us a B-line will ya?

Whenever we had a Tristar grounded for an extended period of time, the running joke answer to the question "Will it fly?" was always, "No, were towing it to beside the connie, to expand on the restaurant!"

Crap... just realised I miscalculated the amount of plugs on a 1049. There are 144 plugs. 18 cylinders per engine and 2 plugs per cylinder. Great stuff. Stand back when they fire up though; these things bark like a biatch:

Supposedly one of the reasons for having it moved away from the hotel location was the number of fender-benders caused by drivers looking at it....Not sure if thats a fact or just an embelished story.

Wish that they could get the beast flying again but the wings have been clipped (possibly to enable it to fit at the hotel location) and it will never fly again.

Pitty it's not staying local, Downsview aviation museum would be a good place for it...but likely no room to store it.

The Museum of Flight in Seattle now owns this Connie, so its headed for the Emerald City. Follow the Yellow Brick Road...

Glad to see it has a new home but a little saddened that it's leaving our soil.....Please look after her for us.

Hopefully we get a chance to see her painted at YYZ before her departure, albeit disassembled.
