Seems like Allegiant has a formula going here:

1) Pick airport in either underserved largest city in a state or a state's "Second" or "Third" city, just far enough away from the the state's biggest city for air travel to be inconvienient... (and if you've been a resident of one, you know what I mean  Wink )

2) Add a flight to Vegas

3) Away we go!

Just wonder how well this business model works...are they pretty sound financially? I don't know, so that's why I ask.

Next, Casper, Wyoming!! (I wish.) I wonder if CPR's runways are even big enough to handle a MD-80 series. I would research this but I am sure someone knows off the top of their head.

I haven't seen any info for the 4th quarter, but through the first 9 months of 2005 they were profitable. Additionally they received a new investment of $39.5 million in May 2005.

and to add...they are not a public company...therefore they don't have to disclose anything

A bigger question: Could the population of Casper, combined with it's popularity as a destination, fill an MD-80 series consistently enough throughout the year, so as to make such service profitable? Some small towns can do this, because the income level and business travel demand of the city's populace will support the service...I don't know the answer to this!

They have to disclose somethings, just nowhere near as much.

Exactly, they do have to report some financial info to the DOT. The public just has to work a little harder to get to it.

The information available will improve this year. Allegiant was reclassified for 2006 by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics at the DOT as a Group II carrier (operating revenues over $100 million), the same as Frontier, Aloha, etc. That means more info will have to be reported.

Well...the runway here in CPR is over 10k feet long...I would say its enough for an MD-80. Oh yeah...Casino Express currently operates about twice a month to Wendover NV and their 732 are always full!!!! Yes I am 100% positive an MD-80 can land here, there have been 747s land her (AF1)...several 737s, and 757s (diversions from DEN). I believe that CPR could probably be able to support 2 X LAS per week. Not only are you marketing CPR but you would also market all the towns/cties around it!!!! Other than JAC which is mostly seasonal, CPR is by far the busiest airport in WY. In 05 we hit about 90k enplanements...up about 25% from last year.
