So, according to Chilean newspaper El Diario Financiero, Air Madrid will open an airline in Argentina, to be called Air Buenos Aires. Air Buenos Aires shall operate regular flights within Argentina and to international destinations.

This project, among others, will be financed by Optursa Management, owned by Air Madrid's president José Luis Carrillo. Carrillo said "the group made profits between four and six million euros in 2005", and added the 2006 results "will depend on us achieving our goals".

Air Madrid will also start flying to Managua, Nicaragua. The airline will build a very own maintenance centre there, "which doesn't exist in the area, and will offer maintenance to other carriers".

Among other projects, Air Madrid will build its own, 12.000 square meters hangars at Madrid's Barajas airport, able to handle three aircraft, and a 4.000 square meters office building. Both projects should be ready in 12 months.

Finally, Carrillo wants his company to own a hotel at each of its destinations, and they will start by building one in Managua.

Saludos,
Marambio

Quoting Marambio (Thread starter):

I wonder what their "secret" formula will be?

This is the second news event in two months involving airlines and hotels. The other being Grupo Posadas purchasing Mexicana from Cintra.

Airlines and hotels, while seeming like a good fit, have never been really able to work, even when undertaken by some of the world's most well-run airlines. I wish Air Madrid well.

To be honest, NM's parent company is being far too ambitious. If they are not careful, this could really backfire on them. They're already having complications trying to stay on schedule and are flying too many destinations with their small fleet. NM has to get their act together, build up a decently sized fleet, before they can even think of starting up another airline.

Good luck to NM. They are going to need it.

I am always more than happy, to see somebody making profits in aviation and building a successful business. But honestly, AirMadrid seems to me to be a little to successful. The airlinebusiness is as we all know, at the moment more difficult than ever. On long range even more people loose money than on shortrange. Not so AirMadrid: They have the magic formula, making money as a startup, going long range, low cost and even loosing the passengers respect every day as the product seems not to be so good....
How shall that work? Either everybody else in business is stupid or they do anything....from taxfraud to laundering money...I don't know, but I have my big doubts.
Well, this is only my impression and opinion maybe I am wrong, at least I shall be happy to learn the opposite, I am just afraid that I will not...

Cheers
