Just wondering why Qantas does not turn around its jets in LAX a couple of hours after they get in each morning and send some/all of them back to SYD/MEL? All QF flights into LAX arrive early morning, and stay on the ground for like 12-14 hours or something before their flights home at night. With a late morning departure for some of these 744's from LAX, they would arrive back into SYD/MEL in the early evening and not be "wasted" on the ground. I realise that some flights would have to wait in LAX for connections from across the USA but surely a few aircraft could head back? QF fly 5 744's to LAX every day. I would have thought QF could get more use out of them if they are in the air and not on the ground, or is it a scheduled maintenance thing that needs to be done on a daily basis? Just seems to be a waste of resources that's all.

Then they would sit in SYD instead of LAX.
SYD-LAX daily requires two aircraft to begin with.

Was flying home from Beijing in December...BA 777 landed from LHR at 11.30 and by 12.30 we were rocketing down the runway for another 12 hours in the air! Admittedly the plane both ways was only &0% full.

Suppose it depends on the convenience time of the arrival/departure.

You dont want to leave one country to avoid having the plane sitting on the ground for too long if it means landing at your destination at 2.40 a.m. for example.
