They will took advantage of the plane used on JJ8011 (EZE-GRU-GIG) that arrive at GIG at 22:55 and nowadays is used on a domestic route to MCZ and SSA. This plane keep 12C and 144Y.

JJ8012
GIG 23:59

JJ8013
EZE 03:00
GIG 06:00

Tam recently added GIG-POA and GIG-IGU, one more GIG-FOR, more GIG-CPQ and yesterday start a new frequency GIG-CNF. And also posted a Press Release on Dec 2005 confirming Rio is a priority for them.

Excellent news, Felipe!

Great to see quality airline TAM operating more flights out of GIG. Slowly TAM is growing in GIG and soon we could expect some intercontinental nonstop flights from GIG operated by TAM (GIG-CDG or GIG-MIA would be my guess).

In fact, GOL and RG are also growing in GIG, announcing a series of new domestic flights.

First flight will take place on Feb, 11. Expect to become 3x weekly in march, and probably on july, daily.
Sorry, i forget to post the start date.

You're right, AR this year is very happy with GIG-EZE and during this month is using 744, A342, A310 and MD83 to improve the seats available due to the very strong demand. RG also changed the 733 used in one frequency by a larger 734.

Chase,

I liked your joke!

Hardi,

No plans yet to expand long haul flights in GIG with widebodies. Just remembering that JJ8090/JJ8094 and JJ8098/JJ8096 and JJ8080/JJ8082 all of them in fact start in GIG and connects in GRU.

Cheers,

Indeed, flights GIG-EZE are usually heavily overbooked with high average fares, especially during the high season.

Excellent news...

GIG, serving the voted most beautiful city in South America,
EZE, voted the best airport in South America...

I personally love both cities and both airports. I would say Rio is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to, with Buenos Aires right behind.

An A320, with 12C 144Y.
The route will offer Economy and Business Class, but Tam is GIG face a strange situation... their check-in is on T2 and their lounge is on T1 !

Yes, and several times RG flight with 738 brings to Rio more pax than the 777 to SAO at night. And fares are at least the same of São Paulo, 20 minutes closer to EZE than GIG.

Tam is today at GIG 2x bigger than in oct/04 and keep incredible 6 daily GIG-BSB flights. I do not expect an A330 at GIG (only if Tam does not receive approval for London) on the short run, but a GRU-GIG-CDG (even weekly) will be a smart move on a market nowadays 100% on AF hands with very high profits.

This is very strange...do you know the reason? Maybe lack of space in T2? RG keeps a very nice lounge in T2.

No Hardi, they have their own lounge with Diners Club. There is a project waiting for Infraero's approval to build a new lounge after Federal Police (International) and After Infraero Check Point (Domestic) on T2. At time Tam come to T2 with RG they were a little player, now they need so much this lounge.

Great info. I think the Diners lounge is very inconvenient, located before Immigration. It is high time for TAM to have its own lounge in GIG...

Btw, TP invested a good amount of money on its brand new lounge in T1, just to relocate its operations to T2 some three months after (due to codeshare with RG, and Star membership), now TP uses RG lounge in GIG...it was a waste of money...[I noted that VP still keeps its lounge in T1, now mainly used by LB]

And they are not so happy, AF just improve their lounge at T1, and all airlines willing to fly to GIG are comiited with SkyTeam (Copa and AeroMexico). TP may negotiate their lounge with Emirates, Virgin or PIA in the near future.

I know this is off-topic, but still. Next February I'll connect at GRU. I'll arrive with KLM and have an onward flight to Buenos Aires with TAM. In KLM I'm flying Business Class, but I'm in Economy with TAM. Will I be able to use anyway either the KLM Lounge (T2) or the TAM Lounge (T1), even if my connecting flight is in Economy? Note that I don't have any status with Flying Blue, and that I'm not a Fidelidade member.

Having heard both positive and negative answers from a few people, it would be nice if any of you guys could give me better info. Obrigado!  Smile

You can use the KLM Lounge as you are a Business Class pax. Tam will not allow you to use their lounge (in fact Tam only allows Business and First Class pax to use their international lounge, even Red Fidelity are not allowed!)
But the JJ flight to EZE is a quick connection for KLM pax.

Felipe, as usual thanks a lot for that info! It will be nice to spend some time at the KLM Lounge in Sao Paulo (having a guarana) before heading back home.  Smile

KLM does not have a lounge in GRU. KL's lounge is handled by AF, which also serves CO, DL, AZ, AM. The lounge is very good, with abundant food, and drinks (including Guarana and diet Guarana!)! It is located at level 2, just a short walk from the flight arrival finger.

Quoting LipeGIG (Reply 14):

So I dont know how AF lounge in GIG will handle all this airlines. AF lounge in GIG is ALWAYS overcrowed, it is very difficult to find space to seat. Currently it also handles DL and CO. I find the lounge too small; AF's GRU lounge is much better. It shows that there are a lot of elite passengers on AF's flight GIG-CDG (always the AF business class/elite check-in is crowed in GIG). I find amazing the number of elite passengers flying AF from GIG. I'm sure AF/SkyTeam has a strong elite base in GIG.

You mean TP is not happy with RG lounge in GIG?

Hardi, thanks for the correction. Also, AF just upgrade GRU lounge to NEV concept like the one at GIG.

Right, AF is the main foreign airline in Rio and due to the lack of non-stop flights to AMS/LHR/ZRH/MXP/FCO and others, many people use AF for connections, even businessmans. This can justify the huge number of Elite customers. Also, Rio is a highly desired destination for AF customers in Europe.
Wish to see more flights in the future, a single 744 is not in condition anymore to take care of the demand.

Quoting Hardiwv (Reply 18):

I mean not so happy because they invest the money and need to change from T1 to T2. I believe they are happy with RG marvellous (and huge!) lounge at T2. Also, they are not happy because there are no expectation to sell the lounge to other airlines.
