Future Plans For 757-300 With Winglets?

With the recent installments of winglets on 757-200's on a few airlines, are there any future plans to install them on the -300 version?

both 757-200 and 757-300 share the same wing, so the same winglets would in theory bolt up to either of them with equal effect.

Skins were thickened on the -300 to handle the higher surface loading.

I don't remember why, but to the best of my recollection, winglets for the -300 are more trouble than they're worth. I think there was something about the wing needing strengthening to handle the extra loading on the tip.

Further, show me a pic of a Conti 757-324 or -33N with winglets, and I'll show you a bad Adobe Photoshop job.

Sorry.

I sure think the -300 would look WAY HOT with 'em, though!!!

No they haven't. Only on the -200s. Currently there are no plans for the -300 to get winglets.

If APB was to offer an aftermarket retrofit of the 753 with winglets, what further modification would have to be performed on the winglet itself? Since the 753 does not exactly share the same wing as the 752, I wonder if the winglet would also need mods.

This just hypothetically speaking, I don't know if APB would actually offer something like that for the future, though I guess some carriers just might be interested if something like that was offered (DE could be a prime example for this, since they operate a relatively big 753 fleet).

and you are also partly wrong in that the structure of the wing remains unchanged. It may have been reskinned but the important part was designed by Boeing to be futureproof, allowing for the -300 stretch right from the outset.

Which again brings us round to why did they wait so long to do it.

It would be more of a case of obtaining certification for the winglet installation. That would be more of an issue. The winglet can be redesigned if it is indeed needed, the major cost is in the certification expenses which have to be spread out over the cost of purchase and installation of the sets.

So the question would be how much work would be needed to have an approved winglet set, and what would be needed to ensure that in the way of testing.

In view of the relatively few 753's on the market paired with the cost of certification, I doubt we will see any with winglets. CO is the only operator that might donate an aircraft for the certification, but the cost per potential unit may dicourage APB.

The aircraft that are getting the winglets are TF-FIJ,FIV,FIN,FIP,FIO,FIR and FIU. FIN is in getting this done now.

I think we will see B753´s with winglets very soon.The launching customer Condor wanted winglets from the beginning of operations, but Boeing denied because of the development costs.

But now they are certified on the B752´s so why shouldn´t they be able to bring it to the -300´s as well? You have to see that winglet equipped airplanes have a higher value as non-equipped.And for every airplane comes the time to sale it.

Around 5 percent fuel consumption is a lot!!!
