SAA B747 LHR-S.A Standing In MXP

One of SAAs eveningflights out of LHR yesterday, 26th, landed in MXP for fueling. After deicing problems an electrical problem has caused aircraft is still in MXP. All psgrs are now in the terminal without any further info about onward travel. The crews workinghours are exceeded.

Anyone with further info about flightnumber, new departure etc.?

Flight number is SA237 and the flight information board at JNB is showing an indefinate delay!

I now saw on flysaa.com that new departure from Milan MXP is 20:00 tonight and will arrive 6:30 tomorrow morning, around 20 hrs delay.

From the call I got from some passengers o/b I am not sure if the deicing made the electric fault or if its caused by its own.
The aircraft could not by own engines taxi into the terminal again.
Passengers were not allowed to use toilets and reading light were off.

Further delay due weather? How is the weather situation over MIL at moment?

By this time crew need to be fit for flight after their hotelvisit.

Further delay is probably due to weather. Northern Italy saw 50cm of snow the past 24 hours. It is expected to continue snowing, although not as heavy as the past 24 hours.

Surely MXP is not the only or closest airport from LHR, able to accommodate SA with fuel? Why in the world MXP?

Isn´t it strange to choose an airport with snowdisaster for a refueling?
Maybe it´s not that easy to reschedule.

SAA is not serving MXP during winter and might not have any cateringitems in MXP. How about new catering for SAA in MXP for this delay? - I hope they don´t serve the food loaded in LHR yesterday. Use AZ equipment?
How is the procedure for adhoc-catering?

They having been using MXP every single day.

They need permission to land at that time of night as a lot of airports are still very busy then.

The price of gas, landing and parking fees.

It's not that far off the track.
