New Air Services To Bermuda

The Bermuda Government has revealed:

1. Low-cost airline Jet Blue Airways has confirmed that as from May of this year it will operate twice daily flights to Bermuda from JFK, New York.

The Embraer 190 – with a single-class configuration of 100 seats – will be used on the Bermuda run.

2. Another low-cost airline, Spirit Airlines, intends to start all-year round daily flights to Bermuda from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Detroit.

3. Twice-weekly charter flights operated by US based TNT Vacations, costing $49 for a round-trip from New York and Boston will be offered to North American visitors between February and April.

These flights will provide more than 8,000 seats to Bermuda during the "off season". However, they will not be available for outward bound Bermuda travellers.

4. British Airways flights from London to Bermuda between March and October will be on a daily basis.

5. A new flight service from Munich will also start in June subject to approval by the governments of Germany and the UK. No airline or operator was mentioned. LTU or some other German airline?

Jet Blue filed for the right to operate the route at noon yesterday and it should take two to three weeks for the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to approve the flights. Rejection is most unlikely.

The expectation is that Jet Blue's low cost tickets will entice more visitors to the Island and break the stranglehold of higher-cost carriers.

I wonder how current US operators to Bermuda will react?

I read an article online a few months ago about Michael Douglas and his lovely wife, Katherine Zeta-Jones were lobbying B6 execs in Bermuda to try and get something going there. Apparently, the Hollywood stars would gladly fly B6 to their vacation homes on BDA.

Would love to see Zeta-Jones doing comercials for B6!  Smile

Actually they will not. They fly on private jets operated by a well-known fractional aircraft operator.

Just to clarify, the flight will be DTW-LGA-BDA, not two seperate non-stops.

Do you know the airline and New York airport to be used?

If not LTU I would expect it to be Condor

I do not know but TNT Vacations are advertising a package holiday departing from Boston on its web page.

I believe Condor flew to Bermuda some years back. However, on the 11th December 2005 an LTU A330 landed at Bermuda and within 30 minutes after being refuelled departed. Of course, maybe it had nothing to do with the German carrier planning to come to Bermuda.

Wow! Oh my god, I dreamed about it, guessed it would just stay a dream, and now...
I´m shocked, to say the least.
