Jet2 To Go Trans-Atlantic?

This rumour, which has been circulating for a while now, seems to be gathering pace.

I have heard rumours again today that Jet2 could be basing a 757 at Manchester in order to operate a service to somewhere in the USA...anyone know if this is likely or is even possible with the 757s they are acquiring?

For Transatlantic, Wouldn't make more sense Jet2 flying out of LBA (their hub)to JFK/EWR/YYZ instead of MAN?

Jet2.com has been based at MAN for quiet some time, since Dec 2004 if im correct. It would be great to see a LS Trans-Atlantic flight from MAN, possibly BOS, due to AA dropping the route over winter.

As for Jet2 transatlantic ops, these rumours have circulated for almost a year now, ever since LS announced they were planning on adding the B757 to their fleet. So, unless we can have some more credible details then I'll treat it as the usual hearsay.

It really is no good for UK airlines to flytransatlantic unless they have some codeshare or? with a US airline. The flights need the onward connecting traffic. that is unless you are flying to mickeyland

I would hope that for transatlantic flights the 757 would have galley facilities for providing hot meals for sale, considering the length of the flight.

I think LBA would be a better starting point for a transatlantic service as its one of the few major regional airports without a NYC schedule.

Indeed they do, but with 228 seats on the 757 - would you want to spend 8 hours on one?

Yes, why not? It's only a little longer than Banjul or Sharm el Sheikh....I donlt ave a problem with it!

And don;t forget a little bt of cargo, too! That'll help swell the coffers!

I agree, although I think BOS and NYC will be a better and more popular market for Jet2, maybe also YYZ Smile

Also I think a flight to Florida (SFB, MCO, TPA, MIA, FLL) would also work, but with 767's insted  Smile

I think starting at MAN rather than LBA would be a better idea  Smile

Why reduce capacity? They are a LCC and in order to offer low fares they should fit their aircraft in a high density config.

Anyway 228 sounds very roomy. Let me remind you than Monarch and BY fly their 757s for 6 or 7 hour flights fitted with 235 seats!!!!! Im just suprised Jet2 dont have 235 seating too.

If they were going to start up, i think LBA would do better first, flying to JFK or EWR as MAN already has BA PK CO and soon DL all flying direct to New York, plus plenty of connections available via AMS, MXP, FRA and MUC.

They could always do what Flyglobespan have done and add a business and "Premium Ecomomy" (actually equivelent to BA economy) cabins rarther than filling the plane up with 230 seats you could bring it down to 100 no frills 50 premimum and 10 business for example.

If the fares were low enough, id be perfectly happy on a 235 config 757 for 8 hours. Sod buying a hot meal! Take a few rounds of sarnies, a flask and a bag of crisps and you'l be fine! Maybe buy a few beers and a coffee on board. Take your portable DVD or laptop and watch a couple of movies and before you know it its drop of drop over NYC. If you want comfort and frills, fly BA or AA, if you want a cheap flight from point A to point B, you have to be prepared to sacrifice some frills along the way. I think the 767 would be a good choice for them on long haul to JFK/EWR/BOS and SFB.Pilots would already be rated on the a/c and it wouldnt be a huge jump to train the cabin crews on the 767.Maybe a 200 to start with and look at the 300 later if loads are good. All economy 290(200) and 320+ on the 300, plus the cargo space below, I cant see how it wouldnt work. I know the sectors per day would be reduced but surely the profits would make up for that?

Yes, at MAN Jet2's 757 slots are for trunk spanish routes this summer.

I think it would be great for LCC flights transatlantic. From what people say about jet2 they seem like a good airline. I'm sure if they upgraded some of the seats at the front and charged a bit extra for them they would make a profit. Like others have said, just take your own food and a book and the time will fly by.

jet2 picked up those 757s because they were available at a good price, and to give them capacity the 733 lacked. But ever since then there has been speculation which took every possible angle and presented it as fact.

That's all it is. For transatlantic service the 752 isn't exactly ideal for lowcost operation as it would be both heavy and low-yield with practically zero cargo. But for flying LBA-AGP and other high-traffic routes it is ideal.
