I was on KLM LHR-AMS-LHR in econ this week and the free wine/beer is back! I was just getting used to the bread and water only treatment...
I wonder if they changed this after getting many pax complaints?
Will we see other carriers which switched to 'lower' standards in econ go back to full drinks service?

What a welcome change to hear of improved cabin service rather than reduced cabin service. Perhaps moves such as this will help differentiate full service airlines from the LCCs and their no frills product.

Not Really ...
It was decided to harmonize the inflight service and product with AF, who has always offered on its European flights beers & wine, even in Y. (+ Free Champagne on Long Haul).

Are you a SkyTeam mileage member already ???
If not, you'd better apply, as most flights are on ST: enjoy them !!!

Yep, Finnair did just that last year. The main thing was gin&tonic among some other drinks and spirits, which you can now buy. On two-class services wine/beer/sparkling is free, but on economy-only routes the selection is more limited. On domestic routes they tried to replace tea and coffee with a cold berry-soup but that too lasted only for a very short time, due to customer feed-back. So I guess the passenger opinion still has some power left!

Well, then AF needs to do something with their snacks. Their KL sister is much better. Comparing VIE-CDG and VIE-AMS snack selection in Y between AF and KL the AF offer leaves a lot to be desired.

@sk601 the cost for a coke or a beer is the same, the only reason might be that people start drinking like in the pub and have 4-5 beers during the flight.

Yes, i have a membership with Czech Airlines. I am looking forward KLM. I have heard a lot about this but never flew with them. Last summer I flew with AF from CDG to PRG and it was alright, but nothing special, but always wanted to fly those blue planes.

During the RIX-AMS flight in the morning I would rather not opt for the beer or the wine. I would rather have juice of some sort. However, during the evening flight back to RIX I don't mind having a wine. I stay away from beer on any flight, because that makes you want to go and that causes a lot of inconvenience to everybody, including yourself. Yes, KLM has been serving free alcohol on their CityHopper flights from AMS to RIX for some time now.

Yes alcoholic drinks are free on KLM again. This will certainly making KLM even more populare among Norwegians travelling internationaly. At SAS Braathens you even have to buy the coffee/tea. KLM is the largest competitor to SAS on international routes out of Norway. KLM serves Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Sandefjord, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Trondheim with nonstop flights to AMS.
