Since you are paying the instructor, the decision is up to you. There are no rules against it. Why wouldn't you ask the flight instructor this question? I guess your the non-paying passenger.

Yeah I learned on C172's and I would regularly take friends out while I was learning, but not in activities where it is illegal to have passenger, eg Stalling, SFLWOP, and low flying, and of course solo time... But that depends on what your laws are in the country you're from, in NZ as I mentioned, that is the case. but check with your instructor as to if he/she would like to have a passenger on board...
