Found this on Airbus' website...
Any idea why they didnt receive these aircraft ?? was it simply because of the A350 or just because they decided to order more A330's instead ??
Im quite interested in this...
The plane looks awesome too !!

Hi Rob, hows it going mate..
Pretty good thanks, you?
Quoting BHXDTW (Reply 2): So whats prompted QR to order all these types ?
QR seemed to follow EK on the 346/77W subject, with both airlines going to be operating both types (which compete directly with eachother)
Quoting BHXDTW (Reply 2): Im interested as all of these types inc the 380 can basically almost do the same job ...
Qatar Airways currently have 4 A380-800's on order. They will be used on flights to LHR and perhaps another destination
LHR is currently 2x daily and will soon go to 3x daily once the agrement with Bmi goes through (this allows QR to technicly have 3 daily slots, when In fact they only have 2)
All of the flights will be operated by the A330-300 and will be replaced by the A380 when delivered
I think the 77W's will provide higher capacity on routes such as CDG, BKK, FRA... and the A340's will be used on other (longer) routes such as JFK
QR only has 10 A340-600HGW's on order so will be used on certain routes only
QR also still has A330's on order and will also recieve 777's and A350's in the future (as well as A380's and A340-600's)
The QR CEO has announced that the airline will only take on widebodies from now on (not to sure if this such a good idea)
BHXDTW, have you ever flown on QR or to DOH (Doha)

QR is quiet a good Airbus customer, they have around 20 further A330s on order, but of the ten A346s, only four are firm orders, of the four A380s, only two are firm orders. And the A350 deal is not yet firmed up.
The first A346 should be delivered during this summer.
The A380s will not be delivered before 2009, IIRC, because QR wants the airport to be done first.
With all the heavy equipment on order they might actually send something bigger than the A319LR to my home airport TXL. But the service to it just started, that small airplane is probably good in the beginning to build up a customer base and a reputation. Better than sending an A330 that is only 30% loaded. AFAIK they are quiet happy with the load factor this far, nice to have them at TXL.

According to the Qatar statement, there were going to place an order for up to 60 A350s, and at least 20 777s. Neither of the orders have been confirmed.
That has of course given rise to speculation that Qatar may be negotiating a 777 + 787 deal, and a A346 + A350 deal.
I suppose EK's indecision about the A350 and B787 is having some effect on Qatar's fleet plans.

really ? the airbus website shows only 2 ordered..
and no I havent had the chance to go to DOH or fly on QR... I would like to though..
Seems like you have though.
It sure seems like where many airlines are going for the fleet commonality theme, QR are bucking the trend...
Im sure there has to be some reasoning behind that as Im sure they could acheive all they need to by using either just A or B
(And no I dont have a preference between the two haha

Yea, it's 2. I was getting my numbers mixed up with options included

I have many times, trust me you should take a trip on QR.
Doha is a very nice city also, kind of like Dubai, but less developed and busy (for the moment)
Quoting B742 (Reply 4): The QR CEO has announced that the airline will only take on widebodies from now on (not to sure if this such a good idea)
Dont QR also have 320's ??
So it seems they are going down the 'ol SQ/EK route of Widebody's only ?!!
hmm interesting strategy ?!
So it seems that QR are really bucking the trend of fleet commonality..
I would have thought that either A or B could have filled all of QR's needs
and that may have been a little more cheaper ! for pilot training etc
Yea... Qatar Airways have 12 A320-232's (One is operated for Qatar Amiri Flight), they also have 2 A319LR's and 1 A319CJ (Also operated for Qatar Amiri Flight), they also have 2 A321-232's

I agree, I hope they don't go all widebodies
Quoting BHXDTW (Reply 10): So it seems that QR are really bucking the trend of fleet commonality..
Seems it unfortinatly. I liked the fact that QR had an all airbus fleet (even though I'm a fan of both A and B) and that they had a trend of fleet commonality. One of the reasons I fell in love with QR.
Personaly I don't see the need for QR to add Boeings (except 777F), they have the 346 and possibly 345 which could do the job (Don't flame me for this, just my opinion guys )

Maybe its a middle eastern thing as both EK and Etihad also are doing the same thing.... ??
so are QR going to get rid of their 320's soon ? maybe they plan to use their 330's on the 320 routes and use the 350's/787's on the 330 routes ??
just a thought..

Why would QR drop the A32Xs? They like to use the A319LR to open up new routes, like they are doing with TXL. Besides, Doha is not Dubai, some of the regional routes probably don't have the demand to justify A330s. In addition to that QR doesn't have as many connections as EK.
QR also has some A306s, but I think they'll be replaced with A332s.
Concerning the Boeing deal: They had already money put down for 787s, but then they went for the A350. I think they wanted some 777Fs and somehow managed a deal with Boeing to transfer the 787 payments to a 777 order. Boeing probably gave them a good deal, because QR used to be all-Airbus before that. Since QR is growing they probably don't want to be all-Airbus much longer, so why just have 6 777Fs, when you can also have a couple of -200LRs and -300ERs for fleet commonality when you get a good deal?

Quoting Thorben (Reply 15): Quoting BHXDTW (Reply 14):
maybe they could use it too try a similar AF 'Dedicate' program ??
What is that?
The dedicate program is AF's arm for a small amount of O and D traffic.
These are places with mainly oil workers and such like going to places like Baku in Azerbaijan where a frequent service with a mainline jet is not required
The Dedicate services are all operated with 319's to Africa/Middle East and Easteen Europe..
Maybe someone else can flower this description up a bit as I know only a little about the service.

They did indeed sign an LOI for 60 A350s in October last year after announcing their intention of ordering "up to 60" A350's at the Paris Air Show.

I should have been more clear. By "confirmed", I meant neither of those commitments have been turned into "firm" orders yet.
