DL's 764's Re-Configuration Status?

I know this kind of topic has been brought up previously, however, the issue I seem to have within this topic hasn't yet been spoken.

After reading the Thread: Song A/c After Re-merging With DL

And also seeing this quote:

No way all of this is going to happen before May 1st. Delta has been selling tickets on B764 to Europe all economy fares and probably upgrade the medallions or/and certain fare classes of tickets sold to domestic first.

Very true. The 764s will come out for maintenance following the summer season and get retooled with BizElite.

My raised issue is as follows:

DL are still selling all Economy tickets on 764 routes from Europe up to the end of December this year. Surely when they know they will be converting the domestic first into BizElite they will put that into their systems.

What I mean is...
If DL has scheduled the change over of all Domestic First seats in their 764's for lets say 1st August 2006. Then from 2nd August (if they were done overnight, for example) onwards their seating maps in passengers Itineraries should show the new configuration after this date, so appropriate seat selections can be made?

Surely there is a cut off date for selling seats in all Y configuration otherwise Delta will not make money from selling BizElite seats, at such small notice of change over (if it does happen in the summer)

I know this because I am booked to return on DL154 JFK-MAN (18th Dec) and I am seated in the Domestic First Cabin as I am a Silver Elite member with DL.

My overall point being, that if the seating configuration is changed over in August and my flight is 3/4 full already (which it actually is) then preferred seating for medallion members will no longer apply and we will get seated anywhere where available seats are, as all regular Y ticketed pax will already occupy seats. (Exits rows & Forward cabin economy etc. Which are usually blocked off for medallion members only)

It may possibly that medallion members get the short straw with all of this... Any idea's?

I hope that made sense.

Regards,

Ryan

Geez you're buying your ticket early! Christmas plans I suppose?

What is it with you people!?

Perhaps. But I bet if the plane gets reconfigured and has BizElite, thus having less seats in Steerage, the non-Medallion folks will get relegated to the back of the plane while the seats in the front of Y and exit rows will continue to be only selected by Medallion members. My suggestion is to keep checking your seat assignment. Someone on here from DL can speak better to when the planes will be updated and when the actual schedules will be released. You're quite a ways from your flight so many things can change between now and then.

Not really the short straw. The worst that would happen is those sitting in the domestic-first cabin will get pushed back to coach, but when you're paying a coach fare, that's where you originally would be anyway. Besides, on an eight hour flight, it really doesn't matter where you sit in coach: It's going to suck anyway.

You can either take the first seat, and risk losing it later on, or call DL and have them put you in coach right now so that you can hopefully obtain a preferred seat. You're taking a risk either way.

It is an award ticket - so the earlier - the better availablity.

I also do actually believe in booking as early as possible, especially if I am paying I can normally manage to get the T-Fares with Delta on International routes and end up saving 3 times as much as what the same ticket sells for a month or so before that departure date.

It's good I guess if you're like that.

Hopefully this will be the case, and/or Delta will offer Medallion members a selection of any seat in the newly configured Y class.... Who Knows?

... Is there anyone form Delta who knows anything about this on here at all? I'd appreciate it, I'm sure other Medallion members in that same boat as me would appreciate it too.

Kind Regards

Ryan

Very true. Now I understand.

Understood. I just think that some specials might pop up here or there in the next 6 months. I have no idea what you paid but if you think you got a good deal then fine by me. Not that you need my blessing to buy a plane ticket.

I agree some specials could pop up but once I book it - it's out of the way and I can get on with organising around it.

Some people are different and rightly so people have different priorities.

The Award ticket cost me £40 GBP taxes ($65 approx) and the fundamental reason I booked it very early was because it is from MAN, which is an extremely hard airport to get an award seat in and out of, especially with DL.

A typical example of last year: I bought a flight for the summer, 10 months earlier and got the ticket for £330 GBP ($550 approx) and 2 months before the departure date I checked the exact same ticket and it was standing at £700 ($1200 approx)
