I had flown on Cathay Pacific couple times. The services was great and the pilot was allowed me visited the flight desk while land on Kai Tak airport.
About Singapore Airlines, I have never fly on. In fact, I know their services is the best airlines in the world. No any airlines could be like this (this is my opinion!)

I have flown both CX and SQ.
I have flown SQ many times from Europe to Singapore, and from Singapore to desinations in Asia. These flights have been on board B747-400, A340-300, B-777-200 and A310-300. Then onboard service is higher than "normal".
Regarding CX, and have only flown with them one time from BKK to HKG on a A340-200. The onboard service was like SQ.
I have been traveling many to overseas destination using SQ, SK, TG, BA, and AY. From a scala from 1 to 10 I would rank both SQ and CX with 10, when I comparing with the above mentioned.

Having flown both airlines and belonging to their top tier level in their FFP programs, I must say both airlines are the best in the world. The 10/10 for both airlines.

I'd have to say CX. Their service and food is better. Hey, Those Hot moist towels also helps at the end of a long flight!

I have flown on both CX and SQ for couple times.
On board CX, I feel the in-flight dinning is good!
The service is better than another airlines but they are not the best.
As for SQ, I have to say they are the best airline which I have been flying on.
Their cuisine is similar, but the most important is a menu for choice before the meal still available on SQ flights but CX has cancelled this years ago.
Both of their food are very good. (I have eaten some poor..... on CI.)
For the ground/in-flight service.
SQ is better than CX for a bit.
Maybe you guys can enjoy a better service from CX as you are a western.
Some of the CX F/A don't like to serve Chinese so kindness...
Just received yesterday a magazine for CX crew--"CX NEWS" from my friend.
The spokenman of CX said that:"we uninstalled the footrest from our B777s/A330.. because they are only for short hual flight and it is no necessary. Also, the passengers from the foreign is taller than Chinese, the footrest will probably make those passengers uncomfort."
I want to ask: "Why they don't increase the pitch area? Or no passenger will sleep on the short hual flight?"
How come??Partial? I wanna know too.
SQ provided a more advance way for check in--"Auto Check-in"
Simply to use a machine for checking-in as longer as 48hours before your flight departures.
I have used it for once, very good. Chose a window seat as I want.
Anyway, they are the very best in the world. They are also the "A" grade carriers.
And there is no "All the best" airline in the world.
