NZ ATR 72-500 Question

Can someone tell me what is the purpose of the pole that I have noticed placed under the tail of NZ's ATR's when they have parked at a terminal?

That is to prevent them tipping onto the tail during unloading and loading. The luggage hold is on the main floor right behind the cockpit, so the weight does get uneven during loading and unloading.

Thats the forward hold yes, their is a rear hold in the tail section. Correct loading and un-loading should prevent the aircraft resting on its tail-stand anyway.
