BA212, Boston-London, leaves Boston at 6:05pm and gets to London 6h25m later, just past midnight in Boston but morning in London. I've had to get on such flight then get to London and endure an all day meeting. Even though I can stay awake and not yawn all day (valuable skill learned in college ), I've found I'm not at my peak performance. So I avoid this type of schedule the most I can.
UA930, San Francisco-London seems even worse. Leave San Francisco at 12:27pm, travel for 10 hours and a half getting to London about 11 pm San Francisco time.
My preference goes to 9 to 10pm departures, which allow for eating then normal time sleep. Out of SFO the latest transatlantic departure seems to be 7:30pm on BA - most flights are mid-afternoon.
Europe-Asia also has some lunch time departures. I find surprising that these flights are so popular with business travelers. Are most longhaul business travellers 24-h machines?

Most of the long hauls I take are NA/Asia routes. Departure is normally early to mid afternoon (before 4pm) and arrival is generally at night. With that big a time difference there are very few windows where both takeoff and landing times are at a reasonable time. Nobody wants to get in at 3am or leave at 3am.
For a NA/Asia flight, for example, if you leave at 9 or 10pm, and are going to HKG, say. Your flight time is 16 hours, which means you arrive at your destination at 2pm EST, which is 2 or 3am in Hong Kong (depending on whether there's daylight saving time or not). Nobody would want to get to HKG at 3am.

I fly almost exclusively with UA and really like the 0900(approx) flight from IAD. I can connect from most places fairly easily to it, is easy to bag seats I want on the 767. The main reason though is that I have never had one bit of jetlag on it. For an early flight, I am normally up very early morning, so I am tired by the time I board the departure from IAD. I arrive into London at about 9pm with my body clock telling me it is about 4pm, but because I have been up for so long, I am ready to sleep. By the time I am in bed, it is about 11pm, so can have 7 or 8 hours sleep, and wake up feeling great.
I hate overnight flights, and particulary dislike the flights departing after about 8pm from the East Coast as they are particularly hard I find.
With regard to West Coast, the easiest journey I have had so far is to take a red-eye to IAD to connect to the LHR am flight. I can usually upgrade the domestic, if not get an exit seat, and have a few good hours sleep.

CO has a 1010 PM to CDG from EWR. That flight is usually a 767 and gets to CDG around 11-1200pm. Also, there aren't as many long hauls arriving because most already arrived that morning between 5-10 am. That is my favorite....ALTHOUGH, BA does have an 2030 dept from BOS to LHR...maybe it doesn't operate daily?

Since you arent flying a nine or 10 hour flight i reccomend you fly anytime between 9 and 10. I always fly 2 hours before sunset, because i am indulged in sunsets, id say most people like the sunseting but for you i reccomend differently since the sun now sets at 5.
