Guys I got some very good news for Maracaibo.

While looking for some fares between CCS and MIA, travelocity gave me the option to fly CCS-MAR-MIA. To my surprise, MAR-MIA was flown by a 757. I checked some random dates in July and all of them were 752.

Anyone knows if this upgrade will be seasonal or permanent?

For now, it is permanent. It is debateable, however, how this is "good news". AA's 737-800s are roomy, comfortable, and, despite no longer having MRTC, still have better than average seat pitch. The 757s are older, have terrible IFE (by this I mean the TV screens project a picture that hasn't been accepetable since 1987), and a very weak F cabin.

Sometimes I don't completely get the logic behind these changes in AA.

Isn't MAR a lower-density market more adequate for a 738-operation? Or did the market profile change all of a sudden? Lots of conclusions/assumptions could be drawn out of this change so it would be interesting if somebody could provide an idea of as to what pushed AA to take this decision...

...Just curious.

Cargo, simple as that.

Right, it's understandable. But are yields out of MAR so solid as to stand immune upon the evident additional capacity? Or have cargo loads/yields improved to the point that they could add up for any eventual passenger yield/load downturn?

The good thing is that MAR gets a bigger plane, that's usually good news. From a pax point of view it might not be an upgrade. But it definetely shows that MAR is doing good for AA cargo or pax wise.

But I wonder if the extra capacity is really needed... I mean, despite AA average loads around 75% (rough average), VH flights are something to be sad about. Tomorrow's flight MAR-MIA has only 25 pax in Y and 1 in C. MIA-MAR is even worse: 23Y/0 C. Seats are going empty, at least VH's.
