January 2006 Brazilian domestic market results were released, as follows (compared to January 2005):

Janaury2006 (January2005)

TAM: 44.6% (41.2%)
GOL: 26.7% (21.5%)
RG: 19.9% (28.3%)
BRA: 6.23% (not applicable)

As expected, the result shows the emergence of a forth major player in Brazil, i.e. BRA, which has captured RG's market share (mainly in the CGH-SDU shuttle service).

As compared to January 2005, the Brazilian market grew 21%, and the load factor was a healthy 75%.

RG's troubled situation is far from over, and BRA may well overtake RG as no. 3.

Bad numbers for RG but when compared to december they face a little loss compared to Tam and Gol.

And BRA will receive 2 752 and 2 733 very soon, as well as they keep frequencies to LIS and MAD. With more planes, as well as new routes (in fact BRA has not begin CGH-SDU yet, only CGH-GIG), BRA could take a 10% stake very soon.

RG nightmare has other name, Ocean Air, which will receive during this year 8 F100's

And Varig will lost more planes during this year (more 3 M11 and 1 763).... bad times ...

But doesn't RG own BRA? My son says their slogan should be "BRA...Seats for 2!" I had wondered where Ocean Air would come into play now. Ocean Air reminds me of TAM a few years back. You didn't see much of TAM then all of a sudden they started flying all over Brasil and Europe!

Quoting Sampa737 (Reply 2):

No Sampa737, in fact BRA was born due to an agreement with Varig to run their Varig Travel operator. After a couple years, RG and BRA terminate the agreement and BRA start to fly by their own, as a charter airline.
Last year Infraero and DAC start to push BRA to start regular flights.

Tam take the advantage of the bad finantial situation of Transbrasil and Vasp, but also take decisions in order to reduce it's size while the market are not so good (i.e. dropping FRA, ZRH, MVD and others in Brazil).
