I saw an adverisement for Ghana Airways in Flight International yesterday.

Apparently the assets are being sold by the liquadators, (these include 1 DC9 and 1 DC10).

According to my list, there are 2 possible DC9's and 4 possible DC10's

My first question was who would want these old planes, my second thought was MSP, (for parts anyway).

What do you think.

Being the skeptic that I am I would think very long and very hard before having any kind of dealing with Ghana Airways. I'm pretty sure the braintrust down in MSP will leave this sale alone.

The Ghana Airways DC10s were a sort of exotic visitor to HAM - it´s sad to see that the airline died. I think there won´t be anyone who will ever buy those old airliners now, except for metal recycling experts.

9G-ANB is probably the one which will be sold in a liquidation process although this is - as far as I know - the one in the worst conditions of all of them.

9G-ANA, -ANC and -PHN are all stored in Rome as Ghana Airways was unable to pay Alitalia's maintenance bills. I don't know if any of the aircraft have larger checks completed and if possible buyers have to pay for the aircraft AND the maintenance debts. However, 9G-ANA is among the youngest DC-10s available and is a possible candidate for returning into revenue service with some other carrier. Arrow, Cielos del Peru and Avient are all looking for DC-10s to be converted to freighters.

Hopefully the Rome aircraft may fly again.

It may be better financially for AZ than the axeman.

As for 9G-ANB, I understand that this was used as a spares ship. I see not prospect for that one.

Does anyone have hours/cycles figures for any of them.

The advertisement made no reference to the condition of either aircraft, so your report that the DC10 is i poor condition is no surprise.

the ones in rome are being scrapped i believe as we speak in FCO

I was initially surprised given that 5X-TRE is engineless, but the similar service history suggests that the fit is similar, which makes sense.

not sure if the engines in the picture are of DC9 or DC10... engines ae available in hangar in ACC. just fit them  Smile im leaving to ACC on sunday ill double check on the reg

My bet is that the big fan at the back is for a DC10 (looks like a JT9) and the smaller engine with the thrust reversers is for a DC9 (JT8D).

Those planes could easily end up in Venezuela or even Africa. Some Venezuelan airlines still fly DC9s and looks like the tend to fly used equipment.
