Are VS' A343s Going To Be Refitted With V:PORT?

I assumed that as well as the Upper Class refit, the A343's to remain in the fleet would also have V:PORT installed. However, whilst browsing on V-Flyer, I noticed that the A343s which have been refitted with the new Upper Class suites, still have the old Odyssey entertainment system. Also, after reading the BritPilot777's trip report ( VS LHR - BOM A343 Pics (by BritPilot777 Feb 1 2006 in Trip Reports) ) it seems that while Upper Class has had a refit, Economy class has the old seats, old interior and old entertainment system?

According to V-Flyer, the following A343s have had the refit:

G-VAIR Maiden Tokyo (delivered 21.4.97)
G-VELD African Tokyo (delivered delivered 16.3.98. First A343 to be fitted with UCS, July 2005)
G-VFAR Diana (delivered 12.6.98)
G-VHOL Jetstreamer (delivered 30.5.97)

Yet all of these aicraft still have the old ODYSSEY system!

The following aircraft are scheduled for a re-fit:

G-VSEA Plain Sailing (Originally delivered 7.7.97. Suite refit planned Feb 06)

The following aircraft are NOT scheduled for a re-fit:

G-VFLY Dragon Lady (Originally delivered 24.10.94. No plans for Suite re-fit. May leave the fleet)
G-VSUN Rainbody Lady (Originally delivered 30.4.96. No plans for Suite re-fit. May leave the fleet)

These aircraft had the old Arcadia System.

G-VELD had its refit in July last year, but it still has the Odyssey system, and probably has the old economy seats and interiors like G-VFAR. Any ideas as to what is going on?
Compare the old VS A340 interiors to the new, and the difference is huge!

It costs over £2m per aircraft to install V-PORT so it remains unlikely that the 343's will have it fitted. Quite a large majority of the LGW/MAN 744 fleet also do not have V-Port either  Sad

Unfortunatly  Sad

Does VS plan to have V:Port in any full time LGW based aircraft ? Or is not something we will see for a while, if at all ?

If, as I have read elsewhere, the LHR services become all Airbus then we may see the LHR based 744s move over to LGW eventually, but I aint holding my breath on that one  banghead

It seems VS are going to be using the A343 on its new service to DXB (the first two weeks all seem to be A343). As they do not have V:PORT and all have the old economy interior and some with the old Upper Class, will they be able to compete effectively with BA/EK?

Certainly doesn't seem like it, does it?

Then again, economy seats have never really been anything to get excited about. The idea that one economy experience is that much better than another doesn't seem to be very true from my experience. The whole PTV gimmick is starting to get a little stale and the food, when served at all, is universally terrible in coach. The only remaining difference from one economy cabin to the next is seat pitch, and even that is becoming homogenized on all but the longest of intercontinental flights.

Odyssey is still a very good system, even Arcadia is better than what LH/KL and alot of other airlines offer in Y.

Absolutely, Odyssey is still better than its main competitor on most routes (BA), whilst V:Port is clearly leaps and bounds ahead.

G-VFLY Dragon Lady (Originally delivered 24.10.94. No plans for Suite re-fit. May leave the fleet)
G-VSUN Rainbody Lady (Originally delivered 30.4.96. No plans for Suite re-fit. May leave the fleet)

These two aircraft and G-VAEL (which also has Arcadia IFE) are expected to leave the fleet before the end of the year.

BA's plans to put AVOD on their fleet will (hopefully) motivate VS to speed up the retrofit of V:Port to the rest of the fleet.
