The Swedish low cost carrier Fly Me is going to buy the state owned Villnius based Lithuanian Airlines. The overtake is going to be gradually, in a 4 step process.

Hope the Lithuanian Airlines name will be retained and the rather stupid FlyMe name dropped.

Do you mean FlyLAL, the new brand name of Lithuanian?

No, I'm not kidding. Lithuanian have rebranded as FlyLAL. For me this is stupid as the airline has lost its sense of location to many travellers. With the Lithuanian Airlines name it is pretty obvious where the airline flies too but with FlyLAL the airline could be the latest LoCo from Gatwick to Malaga as far as the casual traveller is concerned

Heres a quote from an airline press release on the rebranding

"The purpose for introducing the new trademark was to make the name of the airline equal both in Lithuania and abroad. The brand name also needed to be short and simple. That is why we found „flyLAL“ to be the best solution."

In my opinion Lithuanian is short and simple

I assume the name change has meant a new livery. Any pictures of it yet?

I thank you xxx

Why change from Lithuanian Airlines? That was a sensible name with a sense of national pride, FlyLAL is an insult to the Lithuanian people and the country.

The airline explained why in the press release I posted earlier

What are these 4 steps?

I'm offended by the idea that a Lithuanian airline shouldn't be free to name itself whatever it likes (so long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of other companies to their names).
