Nonrev Westbound To SIN With NW, DL And UA

In planning my 23rd nonrev trip to SIN at the end of March I thought I'd make it a bit more interesting by going west from Europe.

Reson for this was a discussion with a buddy who mentioned that this might be the last year NW is flying the DC-10 and I still haven't been on one of those beauties.
So doing some research I found that two routes out of AMS to MEM and MSP are run with DC-10s.
Then I figured I'd wanna try out longhaul on DL (heard they usually treat nonrevs pretty well) and UA.

Ok, looking at DL... Only one US-Asia route... ATL-NRT
Not too bad. UA flies NRT-SIN...
Head gears start crankin' and soon I've planned the following route:
STO-AMS on SK or KL, AMS-MEM on NW DC-10, MEM-ATL NW DC-9 (Yay!! Smile ), stay overnight in ATL and then catch ATL-NRT with DL 777 and then finally do NRT-SIN in C with a UA 777!

Any comments to trying this route at the end of march? Smile

Best alternative routes from ATL to Asia in case I don't get on the DL flight? LAX, SFO or maybe ORD?

Sounds like a fun trip. I had thought of doing something similar just to fly on the DC-10. DL ATL-NRT flights in late March look good right now but it's still too early to say for sure. I will email you my contact info so that I can give you a better idea of the flights later on. As far as an option to get from ATL to NRT if you don't make the DL flight. KE has flight 36 ATL-ICN ETD 1210 ETA 1650+1. That seems to be your best bet to Asia if your DL option falls through. Then, of course, you would have to get from ICN to NRT.

Another interesting backup would be ORD-HKG-SIN 15h48m + 3h45m! One looong flight on the same plane! spin

However, I believe he wanted to go accross the pond on a DC-10

Thanks for checking the bookings for me. But like Ejmmsu said, it's the DC-10 I'm interested in flying so that's why I'm looking at the AMS-MEM/MSP routes as well as trying two other US airline's long haul service in one go! Smile

Mind if I check back with you about the bookings a bit closer to my travel date?

Stay away from using a UA ticket unless its a ZED fare, cause if its a UA ID ticket, you get really ripped off (UA has one of the highest fare bases than most carriers)

I had been to Singapore on NW, but got to taste my own DL MD-11 back to the US Smile

It's a ZED-fare! Smile

Most of our agreements are ZED-based and we can see right away in the ticket machine what the ticket will cost.
