I've been looking on RB's website and, specifically, its fare page*. I see that a one-way ticket from LHR to DAM - aboard a 74L (!) - would be £190-£210 + tax (the actual price depends on when you travel). Does anyone know how much the tax would be? Also, it says that the fare from LHR to Dammam/ Abu Dhabi/Kuwait/ Bahrain/Dubai/Doha/Riyadh/Sharjah/Tehran is £258. But it doesn't say whether this is return or one-way or inclusive or exclusive of tax. Do you know? You could fly LHR-DAM on the 74L then DAM-ALP-DXB on the 722 (intentionally getting the one-stop 722 flight). Thanks.

Quoting Lxlgu (Reply 3): Beware as the RB flight lately is a 320
You cannot guarantee the SP anymore
Unfortunately this is true.....at LHR the flight is always scheduled for a 74L, but the A320 is turning up with increasing regularity........shame they don't sub it for a 727 like in the old days...
Also,if you book your ticket...there is NO gaurentee it'll be a 74L.

Quoting Orion737 (Reply 6): Isnt the 320 a bit small for the LHR route?
Probably about right - Syria isn't a big tourist destination (which is a shame cos it's packed with history and the people are absolutely lovely), it's part of the Axis Of Evil (associate member) isn't it? MEA only fly A321s in winter and Lebanon is a more tourist friendly and far more business friendly destination.
Not wishing to speak out of turn, but Airevents may well be doing a Syrianair 747SP sightseeing flight in Germany this summer. No promises but it's quite likely. Given the amazing experience of flying on Iranair's SP last year, if this comes off I strongly urge all of you to be on it.

Cedarjet,
You ignore the fact that there is a huge Syrian expatriate community in England, concentrated around London and Manchester. They fill those planes. But the SP isn't the most economic plane to operate, nor the most reliable (it's getting old!)

Really? There must be some of course but I live in London and I've never seen any Syrian cultural influences, Lebanon and Turkey (for instance) both have a much higher profile with population, food, media, arts, etc. Not wishing to be down on Sister Syria, I'm looking forward to my second trip there later this year, but I don't think there's much of a Syrian community in the UK compared to any of Syria's neighbours, Jordan is another country that I would say has a higher perceived presence in the demographic makeup of London and the UK. Does anyone know the load factor on Syrianair's 747SP flights? I always imagine them to be empty most days. Not much O&D (and plenty of cheap alternatives exist ie Malev), almost zero tourism and almost zero transit traffic.

Ah yes but it is so beautiful - long may she grace our skies.

Quoting HiJazzey (Reply 11): Trust me, there are a lot of Syrians. I can tell you that from first hand experience. There are tens of thousands in London alone.
Ran across the following database of foreign born populations in the UK.
Neither Lebanon nor Syria made the country specific list due too low indivudual population counts, however in comparison there were 53,964 Turks, 42,377 Iranians, 32,251 Iraqi's in the UK.
According to the table Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen make up "Other Middle East" Category with The highest numbers being in central London, with other clusters in Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool and Manchester.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California
According to the above link, there are 30 thousand Syrians living in the UK.
Either way, there is a significant enough amount of Syrians to make LHR-DAM , MAN-DAM viable.

They often replace the 74L on the DAM-AUH-BOM route with a 320 nowadays too. I've considered flying the AUH-BOM flight to get on the 74L, but I can just see what would probably happen. Worth a try, though.
I did manage to get on one of the 727s last October, on the AUH-DAM run, but these too are sometimes replaced with the 320 nowadays.
