Air France actually took delivery of 3 Concordes in October 1980: F-BTSC (cn 203), an early-production 100 series model [which they had previously leased from Aerospatiale a couple of times since its first flight in January '75], and F-BTSD (cn 213) & F-BVFF (cn 215), both 101 series. These last two were from the last batch of 4 that were built without buyers in 78/9. When no buyers came forward, these aircraft were taken by BA and AF (2 ea.) in October 1980.
When I first heard the news of this disaster my first thoughts were "Oh heck, I bet it's that one that AF has just taken out of mothballs" .... and my premonition was right, it seems.
To see a history of F-BTSC, see the following page at Gordon Roxburgh's excellent Concorde SST website: http://www.concordesst.com/203.html. Gordon is the "gordonroxburgh" who started this thread - it must be an exceptionally sad day today for you and the other Concorde enthusiasts, Gordon.
By a strange coincidence, I only got around to setting up my Concorde database for use with my Airliners.net work this past weekend - and now it's already out of date.
A sad day, all in all ....
My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and colleagues today ... courage to you, as you deal with the empty spaces.
