When were the PTVs installed? I remember on my first few flights there was no entertainment at all (which had initially turned me off to song). How come they hadn't been installed at the same time they converted the planes from Delta to Song?

I believe that in the beginning only a few of the starting aircraft for Song were installed with the PTV's and then gradually over the first year of operations the entire fleet was installed with the PTV's.
I flew song right after its launch, (july 03) on BOS-MCO. And the f/a said that the aircraft were slowly being fitted with PTV's and this one diddnt have one as the 752's were pulled directly from DL mainline (quickly) and they were just painted and had the new interiors thrown in.
Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

PTV installation started in Sept / Oct 2003....Masushita ( Panasonic ) was developing the system we wanted and began installing it in the fall of 2003...it wasn't ready for launch in april 2003 with the beginning of song....
The initial aircraft (ship 639 i believe ) to be fitted with ptvs took almost a week...subsequently the following ones got thru the Mod faster and faster....they were able to get the time down to somewhere between 2 and 3 days...
hopefully when the delta aircraft start getting retrofitted with ptvs the "turn" time will be within the 2-3 day range
