I was under the impression that the aircraft were returned to Air Atlanta, but the Iberia website and fboweb.com is showing a B744 on the Havana turn (IBE4421/4424) tonight. Details ?

IB wet-leases two 747-412's from Air Atlanta of Iceland. As mentioned, these aircraft are operated on the MAD-TFN route.
In addition, IB's widebody fleet consists of 18 A340-300's, plus 13 A340-600's. These aircraft are operated on all of IB's long-haul routes to the western Hemisphere, North America, Central America, the Carribean, South America, as well as South Africa.
By mid-2006, IB will have finished installing its new BusinessPlus seats and services on its A340 fleet. IB's wet-leased 747-412's do not have offer the BusinessPlus service.

Actually there are 11 A340-600s currently operating. The other 2 will join the fleet during this coming spring.

Lots of things have been said about this. It was also said that IB had decided to quit the lease contract before last Christmas (was said a few days after the 743s left the fleet) ...and both 744s are still here.
If they decide to retire them after the summer, then I think the decision would make sense since they won't need the extra capacity of the 744 at the start of the low season, and at the same time, the A340-600 fleet will be complete with 13 aircraft.

...and It will mean IB will not have any 747 ...after keeping during 35 years this wonderful airliner in its fleet
