NWA On EWR - AMS Now?

Yesterday 2/21 at 630PM I saw an NWA A333 at EWR and no KLM aircraft. When I got home I checked with NWA and it was showing that aircraft as NW 64 EWR - AMS and no KLM flight... Today is the same and tomorrow... Did KLM give this route back to NWA ? Is this a permanent change or is this because KLM had an issue with one of its A330s ?

Sort of. KL had an accident with a pushbacktruck and a B747. This B747 got severly damaged and therefor out of service for a while. AMS-YYZ is replaced by B777 (normally B747), AMS-JFK is now a combination of B767/A330 (normally B777) and therefor NW is operating AMS-EWR (normally combination of KL B767/A330). This will be untill March 11, IIRC.

why doesn't KL just lease/use one of NW's parked 744's?? is this way to logical for the "suits" to figure this out??

Well, KLM needed a solution immediately, and putting a stored 744 back in service takes some time I think. And it's only for 2 months, it would cost way too much.

well those technically aren't NW's, they are lease rejects. That belong to a leasing co or bank. Someone correct me if im wrong.

KL/ NW operate as one carrier across the Atlantic and make joint decisions. I think the "suits" made the right decision and the easiest. It could have even been casual Friday when they made the decision!

Are you kidding? One look at a NWA 747 Desert Bird, and any airline in their right mind would look elsewhere.

Those 744's are not the same a/c anyway. The have been shipped in and out as the leases are renegotiated.

Yes, after this week, the A330 will switch to a DC-10 until KLM reinstates the route.

Looks like it's a NW DC10 until March 12.... After that it's back to the usual 763 and 332 combo with KLM. I think EWR - AMS goes to KLM 777 in August !!

KLM is adding a second flight to EWR and that flight will be flown by the 777.

Really, when? I will be flying EWR-AMS (dont have a reservation yet) on June. Will the second KLM flight be operated by the time?
Thanks,
Adam

Straight from KL res system:
EWR AMS 01-1630 0600* KL 658 330
EWR AMS 01-2350 1305* KL 660 777

You can see the data here for the first of June:
KL658 A332, KL660 T7! Make your choice  Cool I'd try to go on one and come back on the other!

I wish that all skies were orange and blue!!
