The article wasn't clear- Is the YYC flight only for the summer, or will this be permanent? I would have thought that DL would put mainline A/C on YYC-SLC before adding an ATL direct flight. I remember DL had a LAX-YYC flight in 1997 that continued on to YEG. I wonder when that stopped.

Interesting to see the Calgary route, but I suspect that it will be summer only. Atlanta-Vancouver does fairly well during the summer with 757's, but this year was the first Delta tried YVR it year-round and from my personal observation, the loads were pretty weak. Initially the flight was supposed to be daily, but has slowly been cut back to eventually 2 weekly. Based on this, I doubt Calgary will go year-round. As for Salt Lake City, I think upgrading a few of the CRJ flights to CRJ-700's would be a good idea, especially the early morning flights allowing east-coast connections.

I am happy too. I think this will be a successful route, similar as to when AA launched DFW-CID 6 years ago as there are a number of business ties between the two cities, not to mention the numerous connections that can be made there. It would be nice to see a late afternoon flight to connect to the international flights also, but as long as we have one flight this is a good start.

Awesome! I been predicting this for the past 2 years that Atlanta would soon be added to Calgary's network and now it looks like it has happened.
Not to worry about the 738's, the Delta flot tails will be a nice addition to the terminal skyline.
I just hope that those Delta charters will return this summer to YYC with 767s or bigger. Anybody know? Some Insurance company to reward good employees by taking them to Canadian rockies.

I'm surprised that U.S. flights to YVR and YYC don't do well in the winter, considering that Whistler and Banff are very popular skiing areas in the winter.
That said, I'm curious as to how well DL will do on ATL-YYC, considering that AA dropped ORD-YYC. Those flights were often full, although it seemed that a lot of Asian tour groups were on those flights, so maybe they yields weren't that good.
