Since they have began zone boarding, do F pax or Medallion members have any priority boarding at all anymore? The few times I've flown mainline since zone boarding, I was seated in F and was in "Zone 1". However, I was pretty sure I saw people who were also in Zone 1, but not seated in F. Is Zone 1 just the first few rows of the plane, regardless of class of service?

Zone 1 is:

Dual Cabin Aircraft: First Class customers and Bulkhead customers

Single Cabin Aircraft: Medallions seated in First half of cabin

Regional Jets: All Medallions

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

So where do Medallions come in on dual cabin a/c's? Zone 2?
What's Zone 2 on a single cabin a/c? Either way, I still think F should board separately.

Medallions are Zones 2 and 3 on dual cabin aircraft. Zones 1 and 2 on Single aisle aircraft. The later medallion zone also allows for SkyTeam Elite members (i.e. CO, NW elite) to board as well with their elite card.
DL has some flights with close to 100 medallions. It would be ridiculous to board them all at once so they get staggered. Some days it may be 50 and 50 while others it maybe just 10 and 10. DL's gate audio system recognizes the medallion program when boarding the proper zones.
As the Bulkhead row has no underseat space DL allows these 5-9 passengers (who in most cases have a disability and preboard even before First Class passengers as they require extra time to board) to board to make sure they have overhead space for their carryon's.

Normal zone order is like this :

Zone 1 : First Class
Zones 2 and 3 : Medallions (back and front sections of aircraft)

Zones 4 and higher : everyone else

IF there's no first class, then bump everything up a notch.

If it's a RJ, medallions board zone 1, everyone else after them.

In general, First always boards first of all, then Medallions and Elites, then normal coach.

In some cases, bulkhead seats (row 10 usually) might board in Zone 1; this is to ensure they have overhead bin space for the items they can't stow under the seat in front of them.

The only exceptions are "preboards" which are UM's, Handicapped, Elderly, Special Needs, et al. They will usually board just before, or just after First.

Zone 2 is the front half of the coach cabin for Medallions, Zone 3 is the rear half.

Bulkhead rows (Row 10 on M80/M90/738/767) are zone 1 to save space for carryons. Zone 4 is the back of the cabin, zone 5 is midway through, and it alternates (basically, divide the coach cabin into sixths).

On Connection, Medallions and back third of the plane are Zone 1, Zone 2 is middle-third, Zone 3 is front third.

Eek. That's a lot. In that case, what do you think the odds of securing a Silver Medallion upgrade on an M80 from MIA-LGA?
One time I was on a 757 from JFK-LAS (I had a paid "A" ticket), but after all the upgrades were cleared, about half the cabin was STILL empty! I guess Medallions fly more routs than others....

Don't mean to change the subject but when are the "new" window-aisle boarding procedures going to be put in? And if so, won't this "separate" groups/families travelling together if their seats were together, or will this be the exception?

Slim to none unless it is midweek on a redeye. I would guess that route has a fair number of businessmen on it who are Gold and Platinum so you will be lower on the list unless you have a higher ticket fare.

There are no redeyes on that route. They only depart at 11:25 AM and 6:59 PM. Either way, I'd sooner sit in Y than pay full fare F ($1300+) for that route!

It really depends on day of the week. I know MIA has a high number of medallions, but most are shuttled through ATL.
LAS is a skymile dumper. There are medallions on the flight, but they are usually on the non-upgradeable 25k skymile award.

Just make sure you make your request online now. In the past year, I was silver and made gold at the end of december. Even when I was silver, I was upgraded 8 out of every 10 times. now that I am gold (so far this year I have flown 30,000 with DL) I have been upgraded on EVERY flight. I generally fly coast to coast so my flights are mainly CVG or ATL to LAX, SAN or SFO. Also go to IAH a bit. so Ive had good luck with it and it keeps me flying my favorite airline! I always put my request for upgrade in at the time I book my flight.
