I know RJ has had for quite a while the JFK and ORD services. Plus they have intermittently had DTW. But, I read in a recent Airliner World article that they at one time operated LAX, MIA, and IAH. Was this with their own metal? or codeshare? I dont ever remember those routes...

LAX was cnx from either ORD or JFK (depended on the season I guess), I've seen RJ metal in IAH several times, but this was in the 90's with L1011's. Can't say about the MIA service though.

Next trip: SLC-LAX-JFK-LAX-SLC on AA, gotta say goodbye to my beloved 762!

Just a quick search came up with these. LAX definitely got them as evidenced by the comment, however the Miami pictures show mostly a scrapped L1011, so I'm not sure if this 1 picture is an exception. Nothing came up for IAH though... Any others have an idea?

I called to one of my ex-girlfriends who is an F/A for RJ and she said the MIA service was in cnx from JFK, BUT was only flown for two seasons with A310 a/c. RJ just couldnt make the routing work she said.

quick question on this subject - since HP is codesharing with RJ on RJ's transatlantic routes, what happens now that HP is part of US? Will I be able to collect Star Alliance miles on this route now? any thoughts are much appreciated.

Yup, for a period via YUL and VIE, and then just via VIE. This service was in the mid 1980s.

Interesting that they have services to ORD, my parents fly with them a few years ago......they certainly liked the service, but I wouldn't think they have the pax base for it......I would think IAH or DTW....but hey, if its doing well..more power to them. Smile

Royal Jordanian flew for more then 20 years between AMMAN-AMSTERDAM-NEW YORK JFK, using 747,L1011 aircraft. I have flown RJ many times and always liked the service onboard, especially the wide seat pitch in Y class. RJ also used AMS as a stop for their flight to ORD and YYZ, although RJ did not have traffic rights on the AMS-YYZ sector. Later RJ combined Shannon as a stop on the way to North America using A310 aircraft, before offering the Non-stops.

AMS

I was under the impression that DTW was served all the time. Is there a certain season it's served or is it just cancelled one year and back the next or what?

LAX services operated from the early 80s till about 1990 using B747s initialy and later L-1011s on a LAX-ORD-AMS-AMM and later LAX-ORD-VIE-AMM routing two or three times per week.

DTW has year round service twice a week. The only thing that changes are the days of the week. As of 2-23 the flights are Mondays and Wednesdays

How come there are no photos in the database of RJ? Do they only arrive/depart at night or after midnight? Also, which aircraft do they use to DTW and from which cities? The A342 or A313 or both?

All RJ flights to DTW are A342's. They arrive from Amman at 7PM and depart around 10PM

Speaking of their fleet, do you think they're gonna add more wide bodies ??
Don't they have only 2 A342s ?

My wife and I flew them in Dec '84 from JFK-AMS on a 747 that had 36 pax aboard. Both of us were the only ones in First Class. We spoke to one FA working for Alia in 1985 who was Canadian and she said their was rampant racism against non Arabs working for the airline including herself.

Late 80s through early 90s. Ended with the start of the Gulf War.

I know that in the beginning 90's Royal Jordanian had a large international Crew including, Russians,Dutch,Americans, philpino's etc. I am not sure if they still have an international crew due to the non stops from North America to Amman. I also know that RJ has some Thai Crew on the flights from Amman to Bangkok.

Royal Jordanian(Alia) code shared with TWA on JFK-AMS-AMM in the 1990's. Funny enough at the same period and a bit earlier Philippines Airlines had a TWA codeshare ex Los Angeles.
