Does anyone know if there are plans to put a tram or something better than the vans from the Big Blue Lot to the terminals? Last time I was at DTW i waited 25 minutes for that van! Some other people said they were waiting 40 mintues. I also didn't like how we were unloaded at the arrivals level...

1. What airline where you leaving from?

If you where flying on NW, why didn't you park in the deck by the terminal, that's what it's for. Where you just trying to save a buck? Well, you get what you pay for.

If you where flying on the other airlines, there are walkways right into the smith terminal.

All of the off airport lots have vans to the terminals.
Parking at DTW is great, I've never had a problem.

$5 a day is very different from $12 a day at the NW deck. I agree the wait sucks, but you learn some tips and tricks on good places to park and such. One tip i'll give out is I will walk up to the dep. level of the smith terminal and take the terminal to termainal shuttle to the NW terminal. T2T run more often, or it feels like it. Also I budget in about 45 extra minutes for the parking there.

The off site lots will charge you about $8 a day so $5, $8, & $12 I'll pay 5 a day because when you are gone for a 4 or 5 day trip the $3 or $7 difference adds up.

Well I have to correct myself as I just went to the airport site and noticed $5 is now $7 a day and NW deck went from $12-$15. I wonder if the off site lots increased too.....

The deck cost more then the blue. If you are gone a few days, it adds up fast.
I have tried all the lots and my fav was the Green before the new road to the NW terminal went right through it. Now I use FNT and LAN and hardly drive to DTW. Parking at those airports are quite cheap compared to DTW.

I agree. When I lived in Michigan I always flew HP out of DTW to go back west to FAT and SMF. The parking van takes forever to get to you. Ex. when you are waiting while its FREEZING cold outside and snowing! And it does add up after while. They really need to do something about it.

I was just in DTW last week, just for a day trip from PHX. Flew in on HP and out on HP but I wanted to go see the NW terminal. We waited about 45 minutes for an interterminal bus, we had seen parking lot after parking lot van go by... and then finally one of the parking lot van drivers told us the interterminal mini-bus driver was on lunch and that he would go ahead and take us over... lol nice of someone to finally tell us. Granted, this was at 1am so I didn't expect an immediate bus over to the NW terminal, but 45 minutes is insane... and I found it funny that they don't even use large buses for the parking lots or the inter-terminal shuttle... isn't DTW supposed to be a major airport? The shuttle service is beyond inadequate.

I only have used the valet at the NW terminal, and when I am gone for more then a couple of days I take a "metrocar". When you add it up, a car service to and from works out to be a lot easier, more expensive but worth it.

Good point Bridogger6. I would think they would use something bigger seen as when I am always at DTW it is packed inside and outside.

I fly HP as much as possible out of DTW because I love the service they have. I flew Indy once just so I could say I flew them  Smile but even the VANS that they drive to the parking lot I think should be actual shuttle busses. I mean the Holliday Inn has a bigger bus then what they use to take to the parking lot. I hope they really change this soon. I no longer live in Michigan but do plan on still traveling HP/US there quite a bit.

If it helps it is better than it use to be though I agree it is higher price wise than at alot of other airports.
