Hello Everyone
My plane just landed a couple of hours ago ending my 10 day vacation with my family in San Francisco. Here is my report:

US Airways #63
PHL-SFO
7/20/00
----------------
I woke up that morning around 6:00 A.M. with my family and got ready to leave. Once everything was finally packed, we headed off for PHL. We were in first class and my dad is Dividend Gold, so there was no problem checking in. We timed it just right so that we walked up to gate C30 right as they were boarding first class. We were on a 757-200 (N619AU). The interior of the first class cabin was very neat and clean. We left the gate around 8:45 and taxied down Kilo to 9L. We were about 10th in line for takeoff. The weather was clear, around 75 degrees. It was a smooth ride all the way at a cruising altitude of 370. For breakfast, we started out with fresh seasonal fruit with a croissant. I then decided to have the Swiss cheese omlette with ranchero sauce, accompanied by potatoes and sausage. It was very tasty. The movie was Erin Brokovich, which was alright. It wasn't one of the best movies i've ever seen. The movie was followed up by an episode of Frasier and various other programs on US Airways' Overture. They then served a small lunch consisting of grilled chicken with vermacelli pasta salad, a hawaiian roll, and San Francisco's own Ghiradelli chocolate (I love that stuff. You should have seen how much I ate when I was there.) Before I noticed, we passed over Yosimite National Park, and we started our descent to SFO around 11:00. The weather was mostly clear, with scattered clouds, and around 65 degrees. We were on approach to 28R, parallel with a United Shuttle 737-300 on approach to 28L. I have a good picture of that, which I hopefully will post. We landed and taxied behind a United 747-400 to gate 15. I have never been to SFO, and was very impressed. We disembarked around 11:35 PST. I loved how there was no humidity. You always hate to come back to it when you step off the plane in Philadelphia.

-----------------
Just a short note: The last night I was there, I stayed at the San Francisco Airport Marriott. It was amazing. What a view! I had a perfect view of 28L and 28R. I also walked down to an access gate (Millbrae Gate) where you are about 100 yards away from aircraft taking off on 1R. I was stunned. I wish they would have something like that back at Philadelphia.

We woke up around 7 AM to get ready for our 10:45 departure back to Philadelphia. We then soon found out that there was bad weather back east, and our flight was delayed untill 12:45. It was a madhouse at the airport. Some flights to Pittsburgh and Charlotte were cancelled or severly delayed, so people were trying to change flights. The only real complaint I have about SFO is that it takes you about 30-45 mins. to take your rental car back. Once again, there was no problem with check-in. We just walked right up to counter and checked our bags. We then headed to gate 15 again for our departure. It seemed that the 757 which we were going to fly on was delayed getting out of Philadelphia, so it would not arrive untill 12. When it did, I saw that it was N629AU. I remember flying on her just recently a couple of months ago. When the ramp crew was finally finished there duties and everyone boarded, it was about 1:00. The flight was packed. Not a seat was vacant. I also noticed that there were alot of little kids. There was also a seeing eye dog on the plane. I had never seen this before. I got on and saw a golden retriever just laying comfortably under the legs of his owner. I thought it was really cool to see that. We pushed back from gate 15 and taxied right to 1R where we were number one for takeoff. We headed up to a cruising altitude of 390. The movie that would be shown was Boiler Room, which was good as well. The same episode of Frasier and all the other programs on Overture were shown as on the flight to SFO. When that came on, I just pulled out a book a read for alittle while. I was very hungry so I looked forward to eating a hopefully tasty, first class meal. They started off by serving us a smoked chicken apitizer with a garden salad and choice of roll. We then got a choice of stuffed tendeloin, southwest chicken ravioli, or a Surf and Turf Cold Plate. I had already eaten a whole lot of seafood in San Francisco, so I opted to eat the stuffed tenderloin, which was very good. An ice cream sundae with choice of toppings was served for dessert. The flight was smooth most of the time, and got a bit turbulent once we hit the weather movie through the east. It wasn't that bad at all though. We began our descent to Philadelphia around 8:30, and landed on 9R at around 9:00 PM EST. We then taxied behind a US Airways MD-80 to gate C29. When we got off the aircraft, I was suprised to see PHL alive and kicking, jammed with people. At almost every gate I looked at in Terminal C said delayed.

All in all, it was a very good vacation with two excellent flights. I recommend everyone to try US Airways First Class service and experience it for yourself. I was happy with the town of San Francisco, and all the wonderful things it had to offer. It is a very good vacation spot. I also spend three days in Monterrey, which was also very nice. I got to play Pebble Beach, which was an experience I'll never forget. Unfortunatley, I also heard the news about the Concorde Crash outside of Paris while on vacation. Our hearts go out to each of the victim's and crew's families.

Did they show the same episode of Frasier and the rest of the inflight programming on the return flight? American has different programming for east and west flights, and I assumed all airlines did.

QF have the same entertainment to LHR and back and only rotate it every 3 weeks. So have a short trip and you get mighty bored on the way back!!!

Very nice trip report.

At least you had a different movie on your way back.
The last time I was on a 57 was on March travelling from JFK-LHR via Reykjavik (Keflavik) with Icelandair.
Icelandair has different entertainment program for its flights segments (USA-Iceland-Europe, Europe-Iceland-USA)

I think they have different movies for each direction. But I was on NW from MSP-SFO and SFO-MSP, they showed the same show on both flights. That is one thing I hate about NW is they dont show movies on any flights in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska I think, meanwhile all the other majors show movies on routes that are long enough on equipment with IFE.

All the programming after the movie was shown on the return trip was the same as the programming going out to SFO. I'm not really sure what US Airways' rotation is for that, but for movies it is every 15 days. For example, westbound and southbound, from July 1-15 is Return To Me. And from the 15-31 is Erin Brokovich.
