Hi everyone,

ATA's L-1011-385-3 TriStar 500 ship 164AT has arrived at GAMCO Abu Dhabi for it's D Check, the third ATA machine to have the check carried out. It is currently on the maintenance ramp awaiting a hangar slot - should have it's D Check completed by May.

At least this will be another L-1011 that will be operational for another few years, hopefully.

Any news on the demise of N194AT?

Cheers,

A40-TY

I love it when a plan comes together

D-check? I thought it only was a partly C-check.... It's only there for 10 days ..

194 touched down in Indy at 1005pm last night. As far as I know it will be ferried to Roswell shortly.

164 is at GAMCO for a 10 day HSV check, NOT a D and it will be completed outside since we were told there is not available hangar space.

Thanks for the update, A-40. It sounds like ATA was happy with the work that GAMCO has been doing for them! It's always nice to see these ships getting some tender loving care.

If I recall, the other two L1011-500s (164 and 161) don't actually require a D-check for at least (or around) another year (Spring 2007, IIRC). The timetables were posted on an earlier thread that of course I can't find. (Dang airliners.net search engine...grrr...) But I bet I can guess who will have an opportunity to bid on doing it if it ever comes to that!

All the best,

Bill

at this point, how many does TZ have left? Also, are they just for the military charters?

Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

Four L1011-500s left.

They are used primarily for military charters, but posts on here indicate that TZ has used them from time to time to cover for o/s aircraft on scheduled runs, as well as to provide extra seats on the peakest periods (e.g. Hawaii at Christmas).

As to 194, looking back, I see that it was actually the C-check that was due now; the D isn't due until 4/30/06. However, as Ty pointed out, no reason to do a million-dollar C-check to fly for 2 more months, and the engines will time out later this year anyway and nobody is available to overhaul them. However, it WAS mentioned that it might have been possible to apply for an extension of the C-check until, say, the D-check date of 4/30. Maybe the thing had too heavy a maintenance record to make it likely that such an extension would be granted? Anybody know whether that was considered?

That's what I like about you, LN-MOW: you're an optimist!  Smile

Here's hoping that they don't find anything in the H-check that requires major additional work!  crossfingers

I don't know for sure, but we get extensions all the time and the 2/28/06 date was most probably with the last extension we could get.

I don't expect it since it has very little open-up to really find anything major, but with an L-1011 you can never be absolute  biggrin .

I was talking to a friend today who is an L1011 FO for ATA. He told me that it was in fact due for the C-check but since the engines were no longer supported and essentially timed out that it was not worth spending even the money of a C-check for a few months worth of revenue. As far as an extension goes, not even worth that with the engines as run out as they are. Sorry to say, 194 is now history. Thanks for the great service old girl.
