It has not been announced yet, but since yesterday, Travelocity has been selling seats on Frontier DEN/YYC.
The news was broken two days ago by Mr. Beddoe of Westjet in Calgary. He didn't name the city, but did talk of a potential code share between Westjet and Frontier.
That article may require registration, but it is confirmed in the Denver Post who expect an official announcement of YYC today:

Interesting.
I checked Travelocity for June 6th (random date) and it shows Frontier flights 4340 and 4342 DEN-YYC...both on CRJ 700's...I'm guessing Horizon is going to do this one for them...
They don't say operated by Frontier Jet Express/Horizon Air though...

They are loaded on Amadeus.net. I checked out in August just to throw a date out there...but here's the schedule

Those CR7's look like they're coming from the DEN-AUS routing. Nothing but 319 service for random dates in August.

The scheduling is interesting for the Horizon-operated CR7's -- great equipment utilization but the 7-hour ground time probably means that crews on the terminator/originator will have a 31-hour layover in YYC.
This seems like a smart move for F9, given the ties between the oil and gas industries in both cities, as well as the fact that the lowest advance purchase fares currently available (before Frontier's entry) are well over $200 each way for the 900 mile segment, or over 20 cents per mile.

Great news! After working here for a couple of years, perhaps it's time for me to finally use my benefits and take my first pleasure trip!
I think it's great that we're opening the route with JetExpress. As usual, once our traffic on the route builds up, I'm sure the equipment will be upgraded as other former JetEx. cities have seen.

Scott and Mariner, I'll be heading out there in May for the start up, so I'll try to get some initial and inagural pictures from the ramp. I'm excited for the city, and am looking for the chance to see YYC and all it's bounty, but not for the 2 1/2 hour RJ trip.

Unless the crew arriving in the morning (1045) from Denver overnights for the 0630 departure as they would have flown already that day. The late night arriving crew (2355) takes the 1045 flight. Still a good amount of time on the ground.
I know when I would fly to BOI last summer, a crew change would happen for flight arriving in the morning. They had similiar flight times at that point. I guess the question is would they cross-utilize them on QXE metal?
But this is the relevant paragraph (last sentence). "Mr. Beddoe" is Clive Beddoe, the Westjet CEO::
"Mr. Beddoe also welcomed Frontier Airlines Inc., the Denver-based low-cost carrier, to the Canadian skies. Frontier is expected to confirm as early as tomorrow that it will soon start Denver-Calgary service, pitting it against Elk Grove, Ill.-based UAL Inc.'s United Airlines Inc. and UAL's regional partner, SkyWest Inc. Frontier could become a WestJet partner once the Calgary airline boots up its new reservations system next year to allow for strategic alliances."
There is also a reference to it in the Denver Post article linked in the first post.

Stupid question.....
Their press release says...
"Frontier to be First American Low Cost Carrier to Serve Canada With New Flights to Calgary"
America West / US Airways has been flying to Canada for quite some time....

This is great news for F9. I was expecting F9 to start YYC as the first city in Canada. Any guesses to what the next city would be? My guess would be YVR or YEG. Regina is a longshot IMO. Again, great to see an LCC from the US start up Canadian ops.

They could also make this a "high speed" turn, which essentially means that it's all one duty period. This means that they are not required to give them FAA minimum rest at the destination (in this case, YYC). Basically, they would check in at 2025 and be released from duty at 0915. This would be a 12hr 50min duty day. many regional airlines schedule these late flights this way. They still have to provide hotel rooms but they pay less in trip rigs and per diem this way.

Neither of them started flying to Canada as an LCC. They are merely transforming the New US Airways into something resembling an LCC.

I'd bet on YEG being next, with YEG third. Alberta is booming. However, I do think YQR and YXE will eventually be on F9's route map and YWG too. At some point they'll go east to YYZ/YOW/YUL.

Airlines do this all the time, as like ASFlyer said especially regionals. Isn't the maximum duty day 16 hours? So at just under 13 hrs there is still considerable time available to take a delay.
