Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to share this quick story with You and also post a quick question at the end to see other a.net's opinions. Three of my friends and I took a breakfast flight from Lafayette, Purdue University, IN (LAF) to Fulton Co. Airport (RCR) in Rochester, IN. On the way back we got an amazing surprise and show. As we departed RCR and were crossing through 4000 ft. 10 nm south west of RCR, we noticed traffic at 2 0'clock. I noticed that it was two jets, but few seconds later I also noticed that it was two A-10's. Thus I descended to 3500 ft. not to get in their way. However, within about 1 min of spotting them, those guys started to fool around with us. By fool around I mean they were coming very close to us, flying in formation, and at the end one of them came right underneath us and performed, what looked like, a vertical ascend right in front of my us. It was simply an amazing sight, something unrepeatable, which can't be topped even at an airshow (in my opinion). Before ending, I wanted to ask that if any of You know what exactly the military pilots were doing when flew next to us the way they did. Were they being nice to us and giving us some fun? Were they doing a quick exercise and including us in it? Or are there any other reasons?
Thank You for Your feedback and I hope You enjoyed the story.

Sounds like a neat experience. Myself, I don't want to see any military plane near me when flying for fear I am being intercepted for some reason.

They were about 100 - 200 yards (close enough we could distinctively see the pilot inside) every time they passed by. Furthermore, I was in contact with Grissom Center at the time, so I was not fearful of any trouble I might be in, since they didn't tell me to leave that area or that I am in a TRF (temporary flight restriction area) of some sort.
